In the play Macbeth, William Shakespeare examines guilt. Clearly, he believes that guilt will always torture you after committing something wrong. In the play, the actor Lady Macbeth states, “Here’s the smell of blood still. All the / perfumes of Arabia will not sweeten this little hand. / Oh, Oh, Oh!”(5.1.51-3). This quote shows that the blood on her hands symbolizes guilt that can never be cleaned and shows how it will continuously stay with her. Shakespeare point is that after committing a crime, guilt will follow you wherever you go and remind you of your misdeeds.
