Composition 250 words in response to Killer Angels, Michael Shaara. “Only those who understand the dangers inherent in employing troops know how to conduct war in the profitable ways,” General Sun Tzu in his book art of war. General Robert E. Lee the over role commander of the Confederate had this vision in mind prior to the start of the war. In view of that he anticipated the danger of war to the same national who are fighting. This paper is to highlight the outstanding of the proficient similarities of the two commanders who saved in the same Army in due cause of the civil war of June 29th, 1863 in a small town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.…
World War II was a type of warfare where nations raced each other to develop new military technology that could defeat other nations. In some circumstances, the new technologies have benefited nations, but also have hurt the nations during warfare. One of these new technology innovations was The Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress Heavy Bomber Aircraft. This aircraft was a game changer for aircraft bombing missions due to the range of travel and the design of the aircraft. In order to comprehend how this aircraft changed modern aviation warfare; the aircraft’s program history, how it operated in combat, and the airmen culture on the aircraft must be understood.…
As Kennedy and his managerial “whiz kids” took office, they challenged traditionally accepted policies and sought a wider range of diplomatic options. Significantly impacted by crises in both Berlin and Cuba, Kennedy and his acolytes deplored the dearth of Eisenhower’s military force alternatives. Very little diplomatic maneuvering room existed within massive retaliation’s “all or nothing construct.” Among Kennedy’s criticisms, Eisenhower’s nuclear policy rested upon the flawed fundamental premise that a thermonuclear war was winnable. After staring down the barrel of Armageddon, many in the administration, particularly Defense Secretary McNamara, came to agree with Eisenhower’s personally held belief deeming the offensive use of nuclear…
Battle Analysis: Battle of Stones River The purpose of this paper is to describe how the Confederate Army of Tennessee could have used Intelligence assets to minimize losses and achieve victory during the Battle of Stones River in Murfreesboro, Tennessee during the winter from December 3, 1862 to January 2, 1863. The Battle of Stones River was a significant turning point in the Civil War. It is the final battle of the Stones River Campaign of the Western Theater. The wind had never been so cold. The sun lazily shone over the tundra’s frozen soil, while soldiers marched through the deserted landscape. These men wore heavy coats; big, heavy, brown boots. The men were as well carrying rifles times heavier than their coats and boots put together; generals liked to humorously refer to these weapons as “peace-keeping instruments”. One could say that this was one of the largest expeditionary forces ever sent by any nation at any point in history, just by looking at the sea of faces advancing in a monotonous pace.…
“War is cruelty. There is no use trying to reform it. The crueler it is, the sooner it will be over.” – General William Sherman Throughout the expansive, harrowing history of war, the surveillance and manipulation upon the enemy undoubtedly contributes in who becomes the victor.…

One of the most destructive conflicts in history known to mankind is World War II. Totaling over 60 million deaths worldwide and leaving several world powers crippled, the second world war marked the debut of many new types of warfare including the new deadly tactic of “total war” and the atomic bomb. Despite inducing heavy casualties on populations and destroying acres of land, WWII was a turning point that also brought positive change in several countries across the globe, including Canada. Between the years 1939 and 1945, Canada underwent great changes and gradually became a more significant power that appeared frequently on the international scene. Through taking on major roles in the war, Canada proved to be more of an equal rather than…
One of the greatest changes that occurred in the strategy of warfare took place during the 20th century. This was the development and deployment of the airplane. The strategic prowess that airplanes provided during times of war was unprecedented. It was very different than all the other types of weaponry that was used during conflicts, such as ground troops, tanks and ships.…
It is the year 1945, and I, Allied Commander Dwight David Eisenhower, face an epoch of United States history which contains a war between nations and the sacrifice of my men. As of the time being, my troops have reached the Elbe River in Germany, and the largest threat posed to my men regards the location of the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union’s Red Army, located 40 miles outside of Berlin, Germany, have vowed to subdue any territory they have obtained following the coda of the Second World War, producing communist control in said territories. As the Soviets located in Berlin march closer to the American Army, I, Dwight Eisenhower, must carefully scrutinize my plans regarding a possible attack upon the Soviets in Berlin, and how this may…
During August of 1990, the army of Iraq invaded Kuwait. A few months after this, the impregnable coalition, which was led by the United States, launched its famous Operation Desert Storm, usually noted as one of the most decisive, quick and bloodless victories of all time. After just a few days of combat, the Coalition eventually was able to liberate Kuwait, destroy the Iraqi army at a very minimal cost in casualties. The amount of Iraqi losses was large (around 22,000 killed and 60,000 wounded and/o captured.) In contrast, the United States only suffered approximately 150 battle deaths.…
On July 1st 1916 the battle for the Somme began. This battle would be one of the bloodiest battles ever fought. Among the men who were there was a war correspondent by the name of Philip Gibbs. This battle had a great loss of life that Gibbs recalls seeing wave after wave of infantry go over the top.…
The First World War was an extremely devastating conflict, whether it is to the millions who lost their lives or the decimated, crater-ridden landscapes the war left in its wake. The Great War was also a war of technological brilliance, because of the many new types of war technologies and ideas that were brought to light during this conflict. From new rifles to machine guns to airplanes; all of these types of technology, weapons and methods of waging war paved the way for technology and warfare today. Because of technology’s rapid development and the failure of generals adjusting their strategy to it, millions were killed using strategies that were outdated to the technology. Over 37 million people were savagely killed in this long combat…
Any Civil War aficionado is well aware of the many the technological advances of that era: not to mention the horrible and dystrustive carnage caused when tactics failed to accommodate breech-loading rifled muskets and artillery pieces, the truly revolutionary introduction of armored ships and intricate modern railroad networks, and the merely tantalizing deployment of submerged warships and reconnaissance balloons. Historians still argue about the extent to which the Civil War was the first “modern” war, but it is impossible to deny that the technology with which it was fought foretold the ways in which future wars would become bigger, bloodier and more devastating. Fewer people realize, however, that a similar explosion in technological…
“ By the 20th century, military organizations confronted the problem of not only adapting to technological changes in peace time, but also the fact that war itself has inevitably turned up the speed of technological change”. The first Gulf War constitutes a turning point in the history of modern conflicts essentially because of the integration of technology into all levels of military operations. War was always been a declaration of hostility between two opposing groups clashed over a battlefield in a duel with the ultimate aim to impose its will on the other. However, the advent of new technologies has completely changed these legendary and almost static clashes.…
