I work at Darrell's paint and body shop, helping him strip downs cars; preparing them for paint. I began this job at the beginning of the school year. I've worked with him previously and I like the job. It's a hot job but a good job, you get to learn mechanics of the car and how to do paint and body work. I will use the knowledge I learn in everyday life.
The first step is to take the accessories off the car. We begin by taking the mirrors, trim, including chrome, bumper, door panels, and all the lights. The second step is to feel over the car and make sure the car doesn't have any bad spots (dents) that we need to strip down. We do this by rubbing our hand over the car to make sure we see no cracks. If there is cracks we get the electric sander out and take the paint down into the primer or into where the cracks stop. The third step is to start sanding on the cars body. We have to make sure we get all the "orange paint" off so the paint will stick. Finally, the painter primes the car and the process gets repeated. Sanding the car back down, getting everything level and after that it goes back to paint and when he's done he water sands it and buffs it to bring out the shine. We then reassemble the car and wash it, then it's ready to go. Some task include cleaning up the shop on Fridays , …show more content…
Bondo is a body repair supplement and it's used when you have dents in the car. You spread the bondo over the dents and sand it down to make everything level. I need help with this particular task because it's hard to take the edges off the bondo without taking off the cars primer. Another reason bondo is hard is you have to put the right amount of hardener on the bondo. If you put to much the bondo will dry before you get it on the car and you can't stir the bondo. You have to pat bondo on the car because if it gets a it bubbles it will mess up the paint
