Lyrics Of A Poem: I Was Drugged

Decent Essays
I was drugged.

Now, I’ve woken up in a dark, luscious room.

A deviant playground.

I’m not alone.

The person that was drugged and taken with me is here, too.

My confidant.

Someone that I had come to see as a brother.

My best friend.

Suddenly, there’s a voice coming through the speakers, telling us we’ve both been chosen to die.

The only way out? Do everything we’re told to do.

This person wants to watch us. They want to be entertained. As she says, “I want to see you come.”

It’s simple: either we f*ck, or die.

All of them! They would say it's too soon, or it's this or that, and I would say 'You obviously didn't know my father'. He would say "DO IT." Some people told me I should give this all away, but by that line of thinking I should be able to go to DE for free because Sid is dead, I should be able to go to Parker for free because Jim Parker is dead and I should be able to go to school for free because DD and BJ are dead. ESSAY 1 ELEANOR LOUISE WILSON Mrs Kristan ENGLISH 101 09/29/15 In “Knock Knock” by Daniel Beaty the purpose of the poem is is to highlight the importance of a fatherly figure during a son’s childhood. This significance is portrayed throughout the text by the authors use of repetition of symbolic phrases “knock knock”, as well as the narrative of the story being portrayed through the eyes of a child giving us a clearer indication of how it must feel to grow up without a father. The author uses a letter half way through the text which further influences how crucial a fatherly role is in a son’s life specifically, as well as highlighting this through portraying the failed lessons the child in the narrative has missed out on.…

    The Victims Poem Analysis

Upon initial reading, “The Victims” by Sharon Olds seems to be a poem that paints the picture of a life of abuse; starting from the dawning of the exploitation and arching over into the life of the abused following the maltreatment. In the work, it is made to be believed that the clear victims of the poem are the speaker and their family—which is a rightful and obvious assumption—but there is another victim that is not as prevalent as that of the speaker and their family: the speaker’s father. After a second read, it is made evidently apparent that although the work does focus on the speaker and their family as the victims of the poem, the ideal that the father is also a victim is explored. Since the father is depicted as an abuser, it is seen…

If you were a god or goddess how will you control the world and what will you do. In the poem “Ego tripping” by Nikki Giovanni the poem is from a perspective view. The settings of the poem is taking place in Egypt. The writer had the perspective of goddess and the children she had and how she is ethereal not of earth but heavenly. The poetry talks a lot about the being the goddess that all men will praise and stating, “I turned myself into myself and was jesus.”…

TO BILLY: No. While the metaphor is poignant and earnest in its simplicity, the poem is largely unclear and underdeveloped. There are several images presented that may come across as confusing to the reader, as well. First Reader’s Comments: Specific Comments: S2, L1 - I feel as though the use of violent imagery is inconsistent with the idea of fixing a piece of broken glass together with tape.…

No author is better celebrated in the fairytale world today than the Grimm brothers, whose publication of countless preexisting fairytales marked the fairytale genres transition from storytelling into literary text. Recognized as the standard source upon which our societies knowledge of German folklore is based (The Reception of Grimm Fairy Tales), the final edition of their work published remains ever present an influence for both readers and collectors alike. Yet, the translation of their work that remains in publication and is praised by society today is not how they originally intended for their work to appear. When Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm published their first edition of a two-volume set of German fairytales titled “Children and Household Tales” in 1812, they didn’t shy from intensifying the gore and sexual intrigue that the stories they collected already exhibited. Originally voiced in a manor that would teach critical lessons and pass on cultural values and wisdom to younger generations, fairytales were crafted into dark and impressive stories meant to frighten children into compliance (Societies Influence on Grimms Fairytales).…

Being in a country where freedom of speech is valued greatly, the issue clearly rises within itself. Writings by Michael Kinsley and Barbara Ehrenreich go head to head in examining both viewpoints demonstrating that both sides of the argument are valid, but the song is creative freedom.…

The function of imagery in Ted Kooser’s “Tattoo” Ted Kooser’s poem “Tattoo” can be interpreted in a multitude of ways. One way to interpret this poem is that the tattoo is used as imagery to explain how old men are constantly trying to re live his youth; the way he did when he was young. It is apparent in this poem, but this is not the main issue the speaker is addressing. The issue the speaker describes is how time changes a person. Another way this poem can be read is that tattoos can tell a personal story.…

RJ Walker begins this poem by making deceit sound as if he was his friend, or a person close to him. In doing this he intends to make the reader feel as if deceit is a person that is always standing there with him, as if he was the little devil on his shoulder telling him what to do. By referring to deceit in this manner throughout the poem it allows the audience an opportunity to lay blame for Walkers actions on someone else. Although deceit is not a person, he paints a great picture for us to begin to think that there was someone there.…

    The Scream Poem Analysis

“The Scream” I really like this painting because somehow it involves mystery and insecurity and to my eyes, the rare views in it reflect a sense of how deep the feelings and thoughts of a person can be. In addition, the fact that the composition does not allow viewers to appreciate the face of the screaming person, is what has drawn me to it. Even though it seems to be that it was a lovely afternoon for everyone, it seems that it was not for the scared looking person. Although two boats are seen on the lake and two people walking very pleasingly behind, the scared looking person seems to be astonished and perhaps confused toward something. Hence, looking at this mysterious individual posing his hands on his face with his mouth open has given me the impression that he or she is appreciating something non real that no one else is able to notice; no one but him.…
