Mr. White Louis and Clark Expedition Journal Project
During our expedition through the new land we found new plants, animals, and ancient artifacts. During my time there we saw new species, and history. It was so exiting when we were exploring the new territory. Here is some of the exiting things we discovered.
New Plants: Bitterroot: A small plan found in grassland, bears a single pink flower. The flower was eaten by tribes like the Shoshone and the flathead Indians, as a delicacy. The Native American named was “spetlum” which meant “bitter” The bitterroot was the state flower for Montana.
Camas: or known as Camassia grows in the wild in moist meadows. This was also an edible flower eaten by the Natives. …show more content…
This species is mainly in California and Oregon. This species is summer deciduous. It will lose its leaves under heat or drought stress it will lose color. As soon as it has water it comes right back. If you summer water it directly it will die of root rot.
Chocolate Lily:
(Fritillaria camschatcensis) is commonly known as chocolate lily, Kamchatka fritillary. It grows in wet areas. Native Americans used bulbs of this species for food. The bulbs were broken apart and then soaked in one or more changes of water to remove the bitter taste.
Large-Flowered Clammy weed: this plant is known for its smell and its sticky branches it has pinkish buds and a green stem.
New Animals American Raven: Also known as the Common Raven is a large black bird. Found in the Northern Hemisphere. There is eight species of this Raven, ravens and humans have lived together for thousands of years, but they are omnivores. Black tailed prairie dog: Black tailed prairie dog is a part of the squirrel family. It has brown and yellow fur . It has small ears a long body, and a black bushy
