John Adams proclaimed, “Because power corrupts, society 's demands for moral authority and character increase as the importance of the position increases.” As much as there needs to be a strong government there must be a balance so one does not abuse their high position. “Which is better, to be a pack of painted Indians like you are, or to be sensible like Ralph is? Which is better to have rules and agree, or to hunt and kill? Which is better, law and rescue, or hunting and breaking things up?” This quote from Lord of the Flies is relevant to this situation of abusing one’s power by showing the difference in opinions of what each Jack and Ralph value as most important priority. It is obvious that Ralph is fit to be chief because his goals for rescue are realistic and helpful for the rest of the boys. This can be the same with Kennedy being president because he had the right mindset of not wanting to go to war. The domino effect is where if everyone strives for communism then everyone will eventually want power over each other. With the Kennedy assassination we see how easy it was to get rid of one of our very own leaders. The military teamed up with the government and went against Kennedy. This shows the amount of power they have in making decisions and also how they dont always go by the rules. It stated in the novel, “People don 't help much. He wanted to explain how people were never quite what you thought they were.” Jack looked like he wanted to help lead and hunt so everyone could have meat. As time went on he started getting into everyone 's head and manipulating them to think he was the best and most capable to lead when he was not. Power got to his head and in return he turned into a savage along with his followers. The majority of us are so wrapped up in our insecurities that we resort to violence. As time went on in the novel the more violence was occurring with the boys. Most of the time the boys didn 't even notice the events that they were involved in were against the normal morals. It is scary to think how the world is turning worse and worse. If you think about our future no one knows what is going to happen. It is up to our government to make sure they resolve the problems that are endangering us now. It is a lot of pressure relying on our society when they have let us down so many times.
