This means that we can only be happy when we accept those who are different from us. These three stories each have something to do with acceptance. The Texas v. Johnson Majority opinion is about accepting something that you don’t think is right, and the story, the Lottery is about accepting without question, and finally the movie trailer for My So Called Enemy is about learning how to accept.

The Lottery is about a town that has a tradition, this tradition is as old as the town, they do it every year. Even though some of the surrounding towns have stopped doing the lottery this town has decided that they are going to keep doing it. There are people like Old Man Warner in the town that think if someone stops doing the Lottery then they are “pack of crazy fools.” The acceptance in this story is that once someone gets drawn for the lottery everyone in the town accepts that who ever gets drawn has to get “the prize” for winning no matter how close of a relationship they have to the winner. Tessie Hutchinson was the person to get drawn for the lottery, so she was the one who had to get stoned. When Tessie was drawn for the lottery no one is the town said anything about it being wrong they all just grabbed their stones to get it over with so they could continue their day.
