I think my reading has improved because I use better vocabulary and I can understand what I am reading. The reading strategies have helped me to become a better reader. I still rely on DJE, T2T like I did when I took basic reading as well. They are very helpful strategies that help me to read better and think about what I am reading. For this and other classes my goals are to understand what I am reading and being able to sum up what I read with very little difficulty.…
I never intended to be an illegal smuggler. Seriously. But when four-year-old me found out that preschool had "naptimes" (in which apparently nobody napped, making it a waste of time to me), I decided to take matters into my own hands, with drastic measures. The next day, my top-secret contraband came in with me, in the form of a book. At 1:30, while everyone else did whatever preschoolers do during naptime, the book snuck out of its carefully concealed hiding place and I disappeared into its pages.…
Ogene Ochai Professor Thomas Writ 101 9 September 2014 Literacy Narrative Moving to the United States was a very hard transition for me. Learning how to speak the American English, and learning their spelling words was so difficult because I was raised speaking British English, learning the morals, culture and how you guys communicated with one another was also a hard part of moving down here. I already knew how to speak English when I moved to the United States, but I spoke British English, and spelt words differently from the Americans. For example, the Americans spells color without a “U” and with the background I had we spelt the word “color” with a U, and we used the same words but some of them has…
At the beginning of the semester I have struggled with the critical thinking category. But thought English 101 it has improved. I struggled with reading a text and identifying the purpose and the audience. I also struggled with, analyzing as well as respond to the different audience and contexts. The literacy narrative helped me to understand what my audience, purpose, and genre was.…
In identifying the author’s purpose, audience, genre, and context to determine effective writing, I used different approaches in each of the three essay papers. In the literacy narrative, my purpose was to inform readers…
Literacy Narrative Rough Draft Growing up, reading was always one of my favorite things to do. I would read “Harry Potter” and “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” books over and over again until I finally grew tired of them. But how did this passion for reading begin? My mom says she started reading to me before I was even born.…
I second all of the points brought up by Chris in his responce to your incredible writing. I was deeply moved by your literacy narrative. By simply having the pleasure of spending the past month or so with you, I would have never known about the part of your life that you wrote so passionately about in your literacy narrative. I often find it so intriguing that everyone has a story that resonates so deeply with him or her. That is exactly why I think large projects such as Humans of New York (HONY) or class assignments such as this one are so important.…
I recently had to write a literacy narrative for my writing class. I chose to write about my journey with reading, over the years. As I thought back, preparing to write my paper, I realized that I used to love to read. I obsessed over it.…
Reading Literacy Narrative When I was a child, nobody has ever read to me. My father was too busy working, and my mom used to tell me stories by heart, not reading it from books. One day, when I will have my own children, I will definitely be reading to them. I want them be able to listen and start building desire to read on their own later on in their lives. I have not done a good job in my past when it comes to reading books.…
Literacy Narrative Language was something I had never put much thought into until October of my junior year in high school. For sixteen years, I lived in the same town, went to the same school, and was around the same people. I was never exposed to different languages. The farthest I had ever traveled from my hometown was twelve hours to Orlando, Florida for family vacation. I learned about language, reading, and writing in school.…
My Path to Literacy For a very long time writing and reading was a huge struggle for me. I was one of those students who was very intelligent, but disliked reading tremendously and was often told, “You write the way you talk”. The older I grew the more I realized that my struggles with writing was due to my lack of reading. I was aware of my issues but because it became a part of my writing habits it was hard to adapt to anything different. I wanted to be like everyone else and be a good authentic and productive writer but it seemed almost impossible.…
The Literacy Narrative was sort of a trial and error project. I wrote the essay the best way I knew how and hoped for the best grade. I did though get to tackle a more creative aspect of my writing that needed much working on. Since this essay was based on our own experiences, it allowed me to be as creative as I would like rather than being confined to the requirements that something like a research paper would have. Despite this, I still realized that my Literacy Narrative was not my strongest paper.…
Tamia Fluker’s Critique Professor Jaye gave his English 101 class an assignment to write a literacy narrative. The narrative’s objective was to discuss a time in one’s life that impacted their literacy growth. Tamia Fluker’s literacy narrative “A Day in the Life of a Reader” successfully met this objective. Although Fluker’s essay had a lot of positive areas there were a few areas in which she could improve.…
With the teacher’s help, students work as a group to develop their own story. Accuracy at this stage is not as important as fluency. Positive feedback and encouragement, however, are extremely important, as students need to feel good about themselves. Students are encouraged to write in their journals on a daily basis. It is also important to note that teachers do not need to mark and correct everything the students write.…
My experience compares to Shannon Nichols literacy narrative because our experiences focuses on our emotional reaction to a writing test that changed our perception of our literacy knowledge. Before taking the Writing Assessment test my worst fear was writing. Picking up a pencil too write about anything was a horrifying thing to…
