Lime Connect Personal Statement

I would make a strong addition to the Junior Board because I believe that my professional journey represents the Lime Connect’s mission of “rebranding disability through achievement”. I first met Lime Connect when I was in tenth grade and entered a Lime Connect essay contest that was sponsored by the New York City Department of Education. At this event, I met Susan and was instantly inspired by the Lime Connect’s innovative approach to redefining disability. I am interesting in applying to PLFSOM because I have a desire to ultimately become a primary care physician that works in underserved communities. Coming from a rural area, I know what a lack of providers in a region can do to a community. I have spent a lot of time in border towns since my dads family is originally from Mexico and I have been able to see first hand that even the biggest of border towns still has a very big proportion of their population that is underserved. Right now, I already use my Spanish to help the Spanish speaking patients that we see at our clinic but my Spanish medical terminology is not as strong as I would like. Being able to get my medical education from a school so close to the border would help me become the…

Back stateside I began reading and training with my local SCORE group in owning a business. Opened a small clothing retail store, where OTJ brought a new meaning. During the first year, I learned everything from how to write, follow and completely understand a business plan to sales forecasting, purchasing,…

Chandler-Gilbert Community College (CGCC) has guided me, a 49 year-old college sophomore, to utilize my academic grit in order to mentor other students, and past experiences to succeed in my educational and career goal as a visual healing artist. My 25 years of medical experience are rooted in my professional goal to be a visual healing artist. Mentors of my previous medical profession ranged from surgeons, doctors, and firemen to patients and their families, all of which helped me learn about human anatomy, kinesiology, and compassion for humanity. My medical career started over 25 years ago as an administrative assistant. I worked my way up the medical professional chain from my emergency medical technician (EMT) certification, registered dental assistant, x-ray technician, surgical technician, medical administrator of insurance billing and surgery scheduling, to an insurance agent of life and health, disability and long term care.…

4-H, I learned responsibility not only for myself but to accomplish the task at hand, e.g. taking care, washing, cleaning pens/stalls for the animals at the fair. I may sound a bit redundant, but like in the FFA you will make the constant of friends and competition, and this friendly competition is what makes it fun to be in organizations like 4-H. I am currently the Secretary of the Rural Raiders 4-H club in Foster County, and I am expected to help record membership, attendance, and the meetings for my club. This last experience was an extension to responsibility, and responsibility is a lesson that nobody will not get enough of whether it is direct or implied. Some of todays kids do not know responsibility because they do not have the agriculture…
