Both communities came together to unify the people living in it. These communities were broken down and beaten from years of neglect due to the violence and segregation of the individuals living there. People were afraid to leave their homes to walk the streets or let their children play around the neighborhood. Their parks were overrun with gang members and drugs, thus keeping the people from finding a common place to get together and build the foundation that a interactive community needs. The members of the Oakland community found a common ground to help bring together the public after years of struggle. They built a community garden that provided a safe and inclusive environment to gather the people in the neighborhood together. After awhile, the members of the community started getting to know one another and resulted in meaningful relationships with each other that was so desperately needed. Lille Lucket, who provided the garden to her community in Oakland, created a place for all to come. She recognized what had become of her home and called for a change. Her actions established a sense of hunger for all generations throughout the public to be involved and to interact with neighbors. This community found itself through the care of others who were willing to step forward to pave the way for change. That is what communities are lacking in today’s society. People aren’t willing to stand up for what is right for the greater good for all and are instead separating to benefit themselves. This attitude creates communities that are isolated and foreign to one another making it impossible to work together. The rich are separating from the poor, which makes the division between the two even greater. Problems of violence and war begin to take hold because of the misunderstanding and mistreatment of others. So what if we were to focus on building a community that brought all walks of life together in proximity, what would this change? Instead of erecting a fence that keeps people out why not lend a hand to bring others
