Lilith's Sacrifice

Lilith Rein pulled out her notebook and pencil and started to think about the death of her friend, Melissa O’neil. There are many suspects, one of them is her own dad, who liked to do science experiments. Every time Lilith tried to question her dad he would go silent, then bring up another topic, Lilith asked my dad where he was at the time of the murder, he said he was in his lab on Monday, April sixteenth. Lilith, after all the struggle, sat her father down to talk. “What experiment were you doing the night that Melissa died? I asked Mr. Rein with curiosity. “Well, I was testing to see which type of cleaning material cleans the best, I guess I was not doing an experiment that night.” Mr. Rein replied. “But you were in the lab?” …show more content…
Mr. Lory answered and let me in, sat me down at her table, and stared at me from across the table. Now it felt like she was interrogating me when I am supposed to be questioning her. “Excuse me, Ms. Lory, I was just stopping by to ask you a few questions.” I tried to sound as nice as I could, so she does not smash me into the ground and kicked me out. “Well sure, what do you want to know?” Ms. Lory said in a snarky attitude. “Well it is about the death of Melissa O’neil.” I said trying to let her now. “Yeah yeah, I did not kill her if that is what you want to know.” Ms. Lory answered now petting one of her cats that was white with brown splotches, which was unusual. “Where were you on Monday, April sixteenth?” I asked, we were getting somewhere. “In my house, with my animals of course.” She answered with a smart attitude. “And what were you doing?” I was asking because I wanted to make sure she was not lying, she was probably just on her hair covered couch, with her cats. “I was watching the new trailer for a new Si-Fi movie called “The Killer”, it looked like a good movie. “OK, well thank you Ms. Lory, I will be on my way now.” I stood up, went to the entrance of her house, and

In McCarriston’s poem “To Judge Faolain, Dead Long Enough: A Summons,” the narrator— who by the emotion in the poem appears to be the daughter of the abused woman—now orders and recalling the original scene in the judge’s courtroom. This is indicative of the fact that the narrator is speaking to the judge in the past tense about her mother, as she began the poem with “Your Honor, when my mother stood / before you…” (1, 2). I believe the narrator is female because of how she startlingly interrupts her own narration with an emotional response to the injustice done to her mother, “no, not “someone,” / but a woman there, snagged / with her babies, by them” (12-14). The narrator’s emotion regarding her mother’s injuries is also within the descriptions of her abuse, particularly the mentioning of her face being “pancake” and “her heart / the bursting heart of someone snagged” (7, 10-11).…

The first interesting quote, “the selfless work of these entertainers… amounting to the astounding total of eighty-eight million” discuss the risky job of entertaining soldiers in order to boost morale, lessen fatigue as well as decrease anxiety. Some of these routines were performed with ear shot of grueling combat. These groups became known as the “singing army” and are interesting due to the fact that these artistes put themselves in harm’s way to help alleviate soldiers. The second interesting ‘quote’ is a string of quotes, “She determined that ragtime… most of the boys are singing with me” in which they discuss how Paula Lind Ayres was able to develop a “treatment” for those affected with shell shock.…

Nearly one month later, on July 10, 1977, Craig’s body was found floating in a nearby strip-mine pond that had already been intensely searched in the first few days and weeks following his disappearance (Flynn, Grace). An autopsy report determined that there was no definite cause of death, but then again authorities had poured fuel on the body at the time of discovery to “kill maggots” supposedly. This move disabled all ability to make determination of cause of death from tissue samples. The sheriff at the time, along with the grand jury, recommended that the case remain open (Flynn, Grace). After several years, Craig Lloyd Graham’s cause of death is still listed as unknown with no new facts or evidence to help find out who committed this terrible crime (“Craig Lloyd Graham”).…

In the story “The Invention of Wings”, you have two main characters that you follow, Hetty “Handful” Grimke, and Sarah Grimke. Both of their lives, big bundled up balls of yarn made up of good and ill happenings that shape the way they make their life choices and many other choices as well. For example Handful had the disappearance of her mother when she was a teenager, which led to many events like her attempting to find out what happened to her mother, thus getting her intertwined with Denmark Vesey. Who I really want to focus on though, is Sarah Grimke because I feel as if she was handed a lot more options because she wasn’t confined to one place all her life. All in all, I believe that Sarah Grimke’s life panned out the way it did because…

Or how Connie didn’t want to be seen with her “ridiculous looking” grandmother. Some other examples are like how Seryozha doesn't listen to his father when their conversation was going on. The lessons that were taught in the stories were listen to older people and treat people how you want to be treated.…
