Growing up Pi’s mother and auntie practiced Hinduism. As Pi comes to age he discoveries sprirituality. Pi curiosity in relgions grew as he discovered there was more than the religion he grew up knowing. His questioning of relgions and tramtic experience lead him to began studying at a University of Totonto and took a double-major Bachelor’s degree. Pi’s majors were religious studies and zoology.
His first Religion is Hinduism because his natural love of its spirtiuality and beauty. As time passes by he discoviers himself in a Christian church, where he falls in love with the story of Christ. Eventually after that he becomes a Muslim after Mr. Satish explains to him that its a relgion of “the beloved”. Pi’s beliefs in three religions lead him to run away from the temples, churches, and mosques because all three leaders explained he couldnt practice all three and must make a choice. After being stuck on a boat with a tiger, the open sea, and God he began to think. Pi’s belief in God helps him sustain himself at sea. His burgeoning need for spiritual connection deepens while at sea. The first couple days in the lifeboat he begans to give up, unable to bear the loss of his family and unwilling to face the difficuites that awaits him.
