Leading to the next topic where Lewis talks about forgiveness. He says how forgiveness is not exactly as beautiful as it sounds. Everyone likes how someone can say ‘I forgive you’ and it’s supposed to fix things. But that’s only when one is being forgiven. The Christian faith is not an easy thing. People have to think about both sides of the story. They ask God to forgive them all the time and don’t think about how he could be feeling about having to forgive everyone. They just look at the fact that they can take a deep breath and often forget about the wrong they’ve done. It's the same with everyone else in the world. The person being forgiven doesn’t necessarily consider the point of view of the person deciding to forgive them. It states in Lewis’s book Mere Christianity, “Everyone says forgiveness is a lovely idea, until they have something to forgive...”(Mere, page 104). This proves the point that people want to be forgiven but not forgive. This compares to the subject discussed earlier about people good things done for them but not returning the favor. Lewis talks about how a Christian and people in general should ‘hate the sin and not the sinner’. Lewis talks about how a big part of faith is belief. Lewis says,”In the first sense it means simply Belief- accepting or regarding as true the Doctrines of Christianity”(Mere, page 123). There are so many things to believe when someone is part of the Christian faith. A believer needs to accept the Christian faith and want to understand that it’s real. Unfortunately, there are things in life that make believing and being faithful difficult. Senses and emotions can get in the way of being faithful to God. Most experienced Christians could tell someone that it takes a while to fully believe it’s all true and want to believe. It is usually discovered by experience that God and his holy ways are real. Lewis talks about how going through life looking at things through Christian eyes will help a person find the things to make them believe. Leaving one’s problems to God to deal with will eventually show a person that the faith is real. After a long life of hard situations a rough events, Lewis has gone through a lot. His experiences have lead him into deep thought about the Christian Faith, making his writing in his book Mere Christianity very detailed and in depth. He goes from basic ideas to how they correspond to Christianity. Lewis talks about how a person’s idea or right and wrong are different and that there are different meaning to the word ‘right’ depending on the person. One person could have more mortality than another
