It is incredibly hard to wrap my head around how a time period, so long ago, can have such a substantial impact on humanity today. The impact of historical events has forever stamped their significance in everyday life in the present. With all of the technology and devices we use in this ever-changing society today, some things, however, manage to remain the same. Renaissance, meaning “rebirth” or “revival”, describes exactly what happened in Italy during the 14th century and continued to spread all throughout Europe. Working under numerous leaders, Machiavelli saw behind the scenes, first hand, just how politics worked. The experiences and information he absorbed working for the leaders of the city-states served as the backbone for his book, The Prince. “Machiavelli 's most famous work, The Prince, was written in 1513 but only published after his death (1532; trans. 1640) It describes the often crafty, cunning and unscrupulous methods by which a prince can acquire and maintain political power.” (Mansfield) Throughout the book, Machiavelli tackles problems that authority figures face while they are in power. Problems such as whether or not to be feared or loved as a leader, how should money be spent, and the influence of people you associate yourself with. Da Vinci was viewed as a genius in the fields of science, engineering, and, most famously, painting. Highly regarded for painting the Mona Lisa, often his work titled The Last Supper, flies under the radar and goes unrecognized by some. The Last Supper features the depiction of Jesus and his twelve apostles sitting at a table and what historians believe is the last meal Jesus had on earth. It is believed that the apostles, in the painting, were reacting to Jesus saying “One of you will betray Me.” That saying has sent the apostles into shock and caused them to break out into conversation. The Last Supper was a fresco, but unlike other frescoes, Leonardo da Vinci painted onto a dry wall instead of a wet wall.
