In 1002, Leif Eriksson discovers North America. He was a Viking explorer who was possibly the first European to sail to North America. Leif sailed North from the Southern tip of Greenland, then went south along the coast of Baffin Island down to Labrador, and then landed in what is now sailed Newfoundland. He was born in 1451. He was an Italian explorer who sailed across the Atlantic Ocean in 1492. He was an Italian Sea Captain. He was hoping to find a route to India so he could have traded for spices. He made a total of four trips to the Caribbean and South America during the years 1492-1504. On his first trip, he sailed for King Ferdinand II and Queen Isabella of Spain.
