Car crashes are the leading cause of death for people in the United States. Teenagers are already more likely to be involved in a car accident because of their inexperience and lack of experience behind the wheel of a car. Adding alcohol to the equation is going to do nothing but make it worse. If you are under 21 years old and driving under the influence you are automatically twice as likely to be involved in a car accident and be seriously injured or killed. In the United States about 1.6 million people ages 12 through 20 report that they had driven under the influence within the last year. That is a very scary statistic and drinking and driving is something that should not take place no matter the situation. The rate of people over 21 years old is not as high but is still really bad and is not something that should ever take place. Driving under the influence can not only lead to you hurting yourself but it can also lead to hurting other people. Just because you are sober when behind the wheel is does not mean that you are safe. As a result of bad decisions made by other drivers on the road you are highly likely to be involved in a car accident with a drunk driver and could be killed by it. After writing this paper and doing all the research on underage drinking I can now see so much more clearly how serious an issue it is. Underage drinking alone is one of the leading causes of death for minors in the nation. It can have a massive impact on your life from a legal standpoint, but more importantly, your body. It can have major impacts on your health and even effect you for the rest of your life without you even knowing. It is very scary. Underage can not only effect you but it can also effect innocent people around you, you can really hurt someone without even thinking about it. The stress that this event has put on my daily life and thinking about how much I risked has very much reinforced the fact that it is not worth it and I never want to repeat what happened. It was a mistake and it will never happen
