Lebron James is a modern day hero who has helped and inspired in millions of people in the basketball world and in many communities. He his a professional basketball player in the NBA and plays for the Cleveland Cavaliers and is considered one of the best players in the history of the NBA. Lebron is known for his size and being one of the biggest, and athletic Small Forwards in history. He is a hero because he is a champion, leader, and an inspiration to many in the United States and all around the world. Lebron Raymone James was born on December 30th, 1984 in Akron, Ohio (Biography.com Editors). Lebron was mostly raised by his mother, Gloria Marie James. His father, Anthony McCLelland, wasn’t really a father figure to Lebron growing up. …show more content…
Vincent- St. Mary High school. After playing all four years on the varsity team, Lebron racked up three state championships, 2,657 points, 892 rebounds and 523 assists(Biography.com Editors). Lebron’s high school team earned the top spot in the nation his senior year and he was recognized as the nation's top player (Biography.com Editors). He was drafted the first overall pick in the 2003 draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers(Biography.com Editors). His dominance in high school gave him the title of a champion. After being drafted by the Cavaliers he continued to play there until 2010. In his rookie season as a Cavalier, he started to build his reputation. He signed a huge deal with Nike worth $90 million, the first player in franchise history to win NBA Rookie of the Year award and also being the youngest player to win this award, and being in rare company with arguably 2 of the best players in history averaging 20 points per game with Michael Jordan and Oscar Robertson(Biography.com Editors)(Knight). His legacy continued to build in his sophomore season. He bumped his points per game to 27.2 and became the first youngest player to record 50 points in a single game(Biography.com Editors). Being a professional athlete, especially in the NBA, have millions of people around the world watching and hearing everything about you especially if you are a top athlete such as Lebron James. One of the biggest ways he is an inspiration is with his foundation. It is called the Lebron James Family Foundation. It supports children that live with a single parent(James 2). There are also many other things involved with this. Wheels for Education is one program which is where Lebron selects third grade students to be a part of this program, that go to a technology school at the school of Akron After School which pairs with the foundation(2). Throughout this program, kids receive encouragement, support and incentives(2). There is also a program called Akron I Promise Network(2). This is a simple program with teachers and counselors helping each kid individually with goals in life and help them achieve them(2). He also has events for kids to come out to in Akron and Cedar Point(2). These events are We Are Family Camps and We Are Family Reunion(2). The reunion is really neat with Cedar Point. Lebron James made a promise with the kids them that he was going to get a roller coaster at the amusement park named after him(2). They made a long term partnership with the Foundation that helps fund and support the Wheels for Education and the Promise Program(2). They do this to help third graders to
