“We’ve never lost an American in space and we’re sure as hell not gonna lose one on my watch! Failure is not an option!” Said by Gene Kranz on the movi Apollo 13, the ‘Failure is not an option’ phrase has been used by various action movies as a cliché which shows authority and badassery. Every character on this kind of movie says that failing on their specific job (or mission, if you really want to be that badass) is not what they are expecting. Fail this mission and you don’t exist on our lives, that’s it.…
She was fun, funny and I learned a lot! I remember she made everything fun! I looked forward to come to school every day, these two years. I wish I could say this about every teacher but for every great one there is usually a bad one.…
However, at the end of the year prior, she had decided to retire, but do to the fact that they could not find a teacher to replace her she ended up coming back in October of the next school year. At this time I was currently taking Intro to Business, and I was upset because up until she had returned I had learned very little. As soon as she had returned, she was able to cram in a large amount of information in the little bit of time that was left during the second quarter. During the next semester I was originally signed up for Power Technology, but had decided to drop that so that I was able to pick up Marketing. Marketing was another class that had really opened up my perspective as well.…
There are a lot of good teachers and a lot of bad teachers as well. A great teacher has a confidence that shows the student that the teacher is in charge. Along with that they also have a genuine concern for the students education .One of the greats in my mind is Mrs. Bobbie Gaile Rodgers. I respect her because of all she has done for me.…
Pre-Teaching Another common general practice that teachers can use to help students with learning disabilities is called pre-teaching. Munk, Gibb, and Caldarella (2010) define pre-teaching as “the advance introduction of information that prepares students for upcoming instruction” (as cited in Berg and Wehby, p. 15). The introduction of difficult concepts and vocabulary can have a significant impact on a student’s progress understanding of new course material. Pre-teaching does not simply have to address vocabulary or concepts for an upcoming lecture. Instead, pre-teaching can be used to review previous concepts learned from a previous section.…
Jane was probably like this because she could not have taught a class so fast and be boring at the same time, for all of the class would fail out. She was actually very proud the first time I came to her outside of class and asked for help on a particular subject, and she was right to do so. For on a test, which I would have probably failed on my own, I was the only one to receive 100 on. After that, I soon learned that I was to move to Louisville around mid-december, and was sad that I had to go, for that year I knew I had some of the best teachers I have ever had, including Ms. Jane, my 9th grade science teacher, who taught me how to stay on task and manage my time.…
One particular teacher, I remember her to this day Mrs. Novatny. She was really to the students in her class. In my personal opinion, Mrs. Novatny was a woman that lacked passion to teach and did she enjoy kids being happy. In that particular class no one would dare ask questions. I never seemed to do well in that class.…
One accomplishment I am most proud of is teaching myself to play the piano. Music has always been one of my favorite things in life. When I was younger, I would try to come up with song lyrics and was also interested in learning guitar. My dad played when he was younger but never played much after he had kids. I was fortunate enough one day to get a piano from a close family friend.…
There are many points that resonated with me throughout our reading and discussions of Letters to a Young Teacher by Jonathan Kozol. The first point that resonated with me was in Chapter 1. Kozol write “Entrap them first in fascination. Entrap them in a sense of merriment and hopeful expectations. Entrap them in “Bird Gardens.”…
I had the best teacher anyone could ever ask for. Her class was my favorite, she used to make us laugh and teach us with love. I felt like she was a second mother to me, she helped me with so many things. For example, she taught me the good and the bad in Middle School. She always made sure I was good no matter what.…
“Success is the result of perfection, hard work, learning from failure, loyalty, and persistence” -Colin Powell. I will never forget when I was awarded one of the two “Most Outstanding Musician” awards when I was a 7th grader at Neil Armstrong Middle School.…

A 95- year old woman named Corazon could really still flaunt her skills in playing the piano. Who would have thought that at her age she still had the tune that professional pianist could do. A 5-minute video of Lola Corazon was shared on a site while she was playing on the piano the song Csárdás (also spelled as Czardas). The said song was originally from a Hungarian Folk dance.…
On Sunday, September 11th, I attended Morehouse’s Department of Music’s Piano Recital. It was the first time that I had the pleasure of sitting in on a piano recital in the Ray Charles Performing Arts Center. The concert was held by Hyunjung Rachel Chung, a young lady from South Korea, performing eleven extensive pieces of music, including five vocal appearances from a virtuosic and lyrical tenor, Sungbae Kim. I was fortunate enough to be present to watch this piece of budding master at work. Of the pieces that she played, I was fascinated with Bach’s “Concerto nach Italienischem Gusto BWV 971”,…
During my early years of school, it is fair to say that I was a handful. I could never sit still and focus throughout the entire duration of a lesson. There was not a day that went by that I did not get reprimanded by a teacher- usually for talking or disrupting the class. It was not because I wanted to be an obstreperous student, I simply lost focus of what was being taught on the board. Usually within the first ten or fifteen minutes, I grasped the concept but still had to sit through the next forty-five minutes of the teacher trying to lead the other students to grasp it through redundant examples.…
