What would you do if you were stranded on an island and a kid was your leader? Lord of the Flies, written by William Golding, was written during the Cold War; however it was based during World War II. Ralph is a 12 year old leader, a major character in the novel, and allegorically represents civilization. The author William Golding was born on September 19, 1999 and died June 19, 1993. Ralph believes in leadership, disagrees with Jack on how the group should be led, and embraces that he is the leader and tries to act powerful which affects the novels positively. Ralph believes in leadership according to the text, “ I’m chief I’ll go. Don’t argue” (Golding 149). Ralph is the leader and it shows that he wants to be the leader. Also Ralph wants to protect the little ones from the “beast” living on the island. It is important to have a leader because if you were stuck on a island with children would you want them to run crazy or live civilized and together? This trait causes conflict in the novel which effects it negatively because Jack also wants to be a leader and you see in the novel that Jack and Ralph disagree on a lot of concepts, also it effects the group positively because there …show more content…
The boys charged at each other and pushed apart and just kept hitting each other. This is important because Jack and Ralph’s true selves came out and they both realized that they both had beasts inside them that only each other could bring out. This effects the novel negatively by pushing the group farther and farther away from civilization also it effects the characters negatively by it eventually ends up with Piggy getting killed. Therefore this is how Ralph disagrees with Jack on how the group should be
