Being able to accept the relationship is a huge part of marriage, which although she did try to, she could never do. In India, couples are considered to be already created by god and that if two people are destined to be together, they are bound to get married. Laura is suffocated in this marriage because she is unwilling to truly accept her life as a wife and as a mother. She was destined to get married, but she feels like she deserves better in her life, not just being a housewife. Marriage is a step to make two individuals become one, not to make two people become one and then divorce. Marriage is not about divorce.
