Kroger Human Resource Management

Most business in corporate America is very successful due to human resource management. Their success was accrued by meeting metric goals. HR metrics are simply measurements used to determine the success of effectiveness of HR initiatives. Kroger, the organization in which I work, is large grocery store chain with over 2,000 operating stores in the United States. Kroger is very successful due to their HR initiatives. Boudreau (2006) mention that it is not unusual for organizations to develop elegant scorecards that are dominated by efficiency measures tracking the investments made in HR policies and practices, or by one or two specific measures of human capacity such as employee attitudes, or by one particular aligned action such as performance ratings or turnover. Some of the metrics Kroger feels that contribute to their success are turnover rates, training, and cost of labor. They measured these particular metric due to the fact that they were experiencing bad result in these particular areas, in turn they were made a focus.

Turnover rate, cost of labor, and training are very important metric to the Kroger Company. Turnover rate is ultimately important because the company need to retain their people to create longevity with the company and to cut hiring expenses to save to company money to put towards the bottom line. Training is important because all employees want to know how to do their job successfully so that they can move to the next level within the company. Proper training will also create better job performance, better customer service and increase profitability. Cost of labor is important because it affects the company’s bottom line. In order for the cost of labor to be aligned, HR must make sure the all schedule are scheduled to forecast, no overtime hours are used, and it is properly
