Mental processing is bringing in self-ideas and interpreting it through a variety of different perspectives. Therefore, the key to knowledge is by first understanding what is being learned and by this, can be used as a powerful tool in comprehension. The numerously different amount of ways through which people view knowledge and their interpretation of it corresponds to the variety seen in multiple different cultures. Knowledge is the way in which individuals use their beliefs, attitudes, and goals that affect the way they see knowledge and can help in correcting or manipulating the things known. A prime example shown in the readings of Hawking’s underlines the theories in which discoveries were made and proves how affective prior knowledge can be. The use of Einstein’s predictions showed how it matched with Newton’s theory, which proved how another theory was created, this lead to many conclusions. In addition, it takes others help in improving others own knowledge, that is why one cannot truly gain knowledge without prior knowledge of others or from experience. People may ask the question, why are some notions “knowledge” and others not? The real answer to be given for this is that there are values to everything that becomes known. Everything can be applied to be fitting in life and there is no wrong way or wrong kind of knowledge. Some examples taken from Core Friday lecture, What Do We Know?, Hothem mentions the many kinds of knowledge that are pertained, that others may think of as wasteful. There are kinds of knowledge all distinct between individuals and more to this day and time. Conceptual is a type that implicates theories and model of things and is used as an understanding system. It focuses more on learning how things work by knowing where they came from.
