The Kingdom of Heaven; a crusader’s quest to journey to Jerusalem and find his son a blacksmith know as Balian. Godfrey the Crusader was killed for protecting his son, against soldiers sent to take him back to Balian’s home village to be tried for the murder of a priest. The death of Godfrey puts Balian into his father’s role of leading the crusaders. He is met with challenges of protecting the king of Jerusalem and the innocent people while on the brink of war with the Muslims. Grief can affect a man so unpredictably. One can lose all faith and hope and just wait to die. Some men will take the grief and transition it into something great. Balian was the kind of man to harness the grief of his wife’s death and become a protector and a crusader himself. As he has nowhere to go he thinks wisely and goes with his father on his crusade and lives a life of adventure instead of waiting to be taken by the soldiers. Instead of just wasting away time I can take action and lead. Laziness was not shown by Balian and it should not be shown by a leader. There will always be a man to corrupt a system. Many men are selfless. What makes someone does not only depend on one’s personality but the surroundings the personality is built around. Guy de Lusignan’s personality was built around royalty and battle. Surviving every battle he has been in combined with the royalty he is pampered with when he arrives back home; he has built himself an ego thinking he is immortal. Guy is selfish and makes decisions for his personal gain. Balian was built around grief and poverty. He learned and trained himself to be humble and to have humility. Instead of using his skills to take, he offers. He offers his life by protecting the city of Jerusalem and its people. Instead of taking and punishing my subordinates, I can give and reward them if they do
