The power of emotion: compassion In Marina Keegan’s essay, Why We Care About Whales, Marina claims on how humans value the life of humans and the life of non-human animals. The essay starts with a social occurrence of emerging beached whales. A natural force that is created by the movement of both the moon and the Earth push whales to the beach. While giving a detailed, vivid explanation of how beached whales die, Marina maximizes the sadness and lamentation of whales’ deaths. Furthermore, she describes her anecdote, which was happened at the beach in front of her house.…
In my opinion, Makah whale hunt is not morality. Although They recognize that because of differences in cultural values and knowledge many people do not understand their need to continue with the tradition of whale hunting, but whales hunt it is violated the law and natural law. They can’t not use the name of “traditional ceremony” to kill whales, it is selfishness and unethical behavior. I can say they are murder, they killed a gentle and trusting animal. Also, gray whales were protecting animal.…
Person vs society conflict is a dominant conflict that all of the characters must face throughout Whale Talk. The quote above is a demonstration of how each of the characters contrast from what society accepts, and therefore the conflicts that each of them face. The most significant conflict faced by the Cutter High School Swim Team is that of the closed-minded discrimination of students to their peers who are different. Because of the fact that there are characters who discriminate against others, T.J. feels as though it is not fair for the jocks to get all the recognition and attention.…
Blackfish released on July 19, 2013 by the producer Gabriela Cowperthwaite. The film shows orcas being trapped in SeaWorld for human entertainment. They are trapped in small swimming pools where they have no place to hide or no place where they can be away from the rest of the orcas. The argument it makes is that orcas should be free and not in pools. The trainers at SeaWorld believe that SeaWorld should close and let all the killer whales live their rest of their life in the ocean where they belong.…
Killer Whales are a very large and strong breed of marine mammals that belong to the dolphin family that can grow up to ten meters long and can weigh up to six tons. Theses whales are a highly social species that are very intelligent with an excellent sense of hearing and have developed highly complex communication systems. Killer whales are immediately recognizable by their distinctive black-and-white coloring, when you see these magnificent creatures many people immediately get the idea of Shamu from SeaWorld and the tricks they preform, most people don’t remember that that captivity is limiting the whale’s freedom and life. Captivity is not only taking away and damaging these animals mental and physical health, it is also playing a role in taking the lives of the trainers that risk their lives swimming with killer whales just to make a profit for SeaWorld.…
Killer whales are unpredictable and dangerous, they will seem like it's all fun and games at first but then there’s a possibility that they may get agitated and turn against their trainers. Along with the trainers…
Whales Whales in captivity is a horrible thing because the whales are separated from their familie, are forced to perform in front of screaming audiences, and they can act out and hurt humans and each other in small spaces. Male orca whales have collapsed dorsal fins. When there in the wild there dorsal fin stays straight up. When there in captivity there dorsal fin collapses. This is most likely because they are cramped up in a tight place so they can’t swim freely.…
“If you were in a bathtub for 25 years, don't you think you'd get a little psychotic?” Lack of space and communication affects the lifespan of a whale. Knowing that, dont you want to know why at least 150 orcas have died in captivity. Even though I feel this way everyone has their own opinion on the issue. For example, some people can like the idea because they feel like it’s a way to rescue whales.…
Since 1961, at least 148 orca whales have been put into captivity. These whales are taken from the wild and put in aquariums and forced to perform for our entertainment. Although some people believe there is nothing wrong with keeping Orca whales in captivity, it is detrimental to their health and it’s inhumane because they are confined in small areas, separated from their families, and they can become aggressive in captivity. ( sorce People believe that keeping the whales in captivity can be more beneficial than keeping them in the wild. For example, Seaworld claims to help rescue Orca whales in need of care.…
Killer whales should not be forced into captivity because of the orca's intelligence, what conditions are needed in order for orcas to be happy, and the lack of education that aquariums like Seaworld provide. For example, the director of the movie Blackfish responded to claims that a Seaworld trainer made about the issue of whale capacity. The trainer stated that “we as humans should not differentiate based on the intelligence level” and the director came back saying “the evidence on animals intelligence in level in captivity proves that the higher the intelligence the more negatively the social structure is impacted”. The director is saying that claims by Seaworld are ludicrous because highly intelligent predators need to be in the wild in order to live the healthiest and most enjoyable life. Furthermore, the director of Blackfish…
Humpback Whales belong to the Rorqual Family and are a species of Baleen Whale. Baleen whales have Baleen Plates instead of teeth, enabling them to take in large volumes of water with their food. They use their Baleen Plates to strain the water back out of their mouths, leaving the food behind to be eaten. Humpbacks eat krill, small fish and plankton.…
In the wild, whales travel and hunt in pods, which are considered to be their family units. Although there are different groups, the resident, transient, and offshore killer whales, these animals most commonly remain with their family unit for most of or all of their lives. Every pod has its own unique sounds, closely resembling a form of language (National Geographic). Being brought into captivity, whales are put into confined spaces with other whales from different places, different pods, and different cultures. Although these whales look the same, they all have different identities with emotions similar to humans.…
The colossal sperm whale is the largest of the toothed whales along with a most odd looking lump. That's simply because its head is a third as heavy and big as its tapering body. The huge front end contains the largest of all animal brains along with a huge sac of oil called spermaceti. Its blow-hole is situated on the tip of its head about the left-hand side. This gives the whale a distinctive 45-degree angled blow.…
Answer to Question 1 Basel III introduced new requirements regarding liquidity risk in the banking sector under the Liquidity Coverage Ratio (LCR). Firstly, explain the criteria and rationale for banks to identify the kinds of assets that qualify as HQLA and the relative ratios for each kind of HQLA is required for compliance with the LCR requirement. One of the consequences of this ratio is that banks are required to model their expected net cash outflows during a 30 day period of acute market stress. Secondly, explain the types of outflows – and give specific examples - that could arise during such periods of stress. Thirdly, by making reference to different approaches to Funds Transfer Pricing (FTP) models, explain how those business units…
