His manga has received a lot of love from his fan base and has even made it to the number one ranked manga on “My Anime List.” Not only has he entertained so many manga and anime fans, but his work has also been the inspiration of dark souls, a highly rated video game series. In fact, Hidetaka Miyazaki, the man man ultimately in charge, has taken a lot of inspiration from Berserk and is considered a massive fan to the manga. Miyazaki has included several characters that bare a striking resemblance to the characters or enemies in the manga. For example, bonewheel skeletons, a classic enemy in the dark souls franchise, was once shown in the manga. Also, Wolf Knight Artorias, a loved character in the dark souls community, is no doubt heavily based off of Guts. In the midst of one battle, the young teenage Guts fought a hulking figure, Bazuso, the 30-man-slayer. Guts was able to keep on the attack and eventually ended his life with a downward slash over Bazuso’s head, killing him. While this entire battle was happening, Griffith, who was later to become Guts closest friend, who he trusts with his life, watched the entire fight and decided to recruit Guts to his mercenary group, “The Band of the Hawk.” Upon arriving at the camp, Guts meets several new people who accompany him along the way. Casca, the female knight, originally disliked Guts due to how he would behave. She would see Guts as a fool-hardy and reckless warrior, which would often bother her. Rickert, a young apprentice, is kind to everyone around him. The band enjoyed having Rickert around and cared for him deeply. Judeu is a young man who is wise beyond his years. He would serve as a “jack-of-all-trades” Pippin is a Colossal, hulking figure who wields a one handed war pickaxe and does not speak much. Finally, Corkus is the arrogant and cocky man who disliked Guts for all of the time that he knew him. In later battles, the Band of the Hawk was fighting a group of opponents. Among them was a “man” of legend, Nosferatu Zodd, the incredible warrior who was rumored to be a demon. A group of warriors was sent into a dungeon and never returned.
