taken a buck every year at that spot. Soon after Ben talked to Coleman on the phone big fences and locked gates went up around the property. Signs were put up with bold red letters that spelled out WARNING KEEP OUT Absolutely No Trespassing for Any Reason. Violaters Will Be Prosecuted and Jailed. KEEP OUT. His new neighbor wasn’t going to be very neighborly Ben thought. He must have had a lot of work done because trucks were going in and out all the time, some even late at night. It was a strange sight to see the headlights of a truck going up that gravel road and disappear into the woods in the dark. Again Ben thought that guy was spending a lot to build a hunting cabin for him and his friends and it must be a show off place for him to boast about. By the time fall came around Ben had put the loss of the calves in the back of his mind. He was looking forward to next spring when more calves would be born. He also wanted to go hunting with Warrren for a buck for each of them as they did every year, but this year had to be different. Blair Coleman now owned the woods that was their favorite hunting area. Ben and Warren walked all over Ben’s wooded acreage for two days looking for deer. All they found was old tracks and deer rubbings on tree saplings. It was quiet over on Coleman’s property now, trucks only came in once and awhile and they decided to stop wasting time and risk hunting where they knew they would have luck, back at the spring in the woods. “We can be in there and gone with our buck and Coleman will never know besides, I’m curious to see what the hell kind of fancy cabin he put back in there anyways.” Ben said. The Coleman property was so big it hadn’t all been fenced off so they hiked in the back way of the property and then headed over towards where the cabin was supposed to be. Warren as usual chatted away the whole time, mostly about hunting. He was quiet for a short time and Ben thought good, he’s finally taking a breath or run out of things to say but then he spoke up and said “Hey Ben, did you hear about the lady who called into the radio station and asked the guy how do the deer know they are supposed to cross at the deer crossing signs?” They both laughed at that one. “Yeah, I’ve known a few girls like that, Ben said, thank God I met Karen.” They reached the building site but it was only a simple square building and not even that big either. When they peeked into the windows it looked really bare. There were only a few cots and a table with a whole bunch of papers and maps on it. It wasn’t at all the fancy hunting cabin Coleman had implied he was putting in there to have fun with his friends. Ben couldn’t …show more content…
“If I had his money I sure would have put up something nicer than that for my man cave.” Warren said “I’d have a bunch of kegs in there and a big screen TV with satellite hookup for sports and some Lazyboy recliners for sure, and deer heads with 12 point racks mounted on the wall and oh, and a lock on the door to keep the women out, and oh, security cameras further down the driveway so we can see the women coming ahead of time to lock those doors.” They both walked away joking and laughing about what they would have in their man cave if they had one. On the way off the Coleman property they spotted a nice buck just as they were crossing back over to Ben’s acreage and he got a good shot at him and they got some venison to haul back home. So, finally after three days of hunting they were successful after all. Ben told Karen what he had seen on the Coleman property and she thought Blair Coleman was just puffing himself up with importance about what he had built up there and bragging to everyone to make himself look

Personal Narrative Assessment Notes The narrative “Out in the Open” would benefit from stronger, more concise language. It's vital to be careful with modifying words. Weak modifiers such as, basically, sort of, and mostly, detract from the strength of all genres of writing. Repetition reviled itself multiple times towards the end of the narrative. The adjective “happy” was overused (three times in 50 words).…

In the vast plains of Montana, full of grass as green and bright as an emerald with a few drops of dew after a rainy day, with rolling hills that go on farther than the eye can see and an infinite clear baby blue sky above it all, there was a little red barn. It was old and rustic, completely different from the other cheery and bright cottages in the tiny town of Wicksdale. It’s paint peeled off the walls a little bit more every day. It creaked and groaned with the gusting winds that accompanied the hill it sat on. Nobody ever approached the Johnson barn.…

I often find that being at Williams makes it easy for me to lose track of my personal life, and to put aside personal issues that I otherwise would have spent time trying to resolve. In the spirit of trying to make Williams a more human place, I decided to put Don’t Stare at a Blank Screen to use in my romantic life, as opposed to trying to fit it into a trite academic context. I started by identifying my problem: I met an amazing guy over the summer who goes to George Mason to study bioengineering on a pre-med track. We had a wonderful time with each other over the summer and got into a meaningful relationship for those four months. But, when it was time to leave New York City, we both agreed to end our relationship to avoid having to try long-distance.…
