Katniss Everdeen: The Hunger Games

There are exactly twelve districts, they are pinned against each other in attempt to keep the peace and to show the people that they can't rebel against the capital. Thus, the Hunger Games were invented. Katniss Everdeen was raised in district twelve with her mother, and sister, Primrose Everdeen. Katniss isn't your average sixteen year old, she was highly skilled and had to grow up fast. After experiencing the death of her father and struggling to help her family survive, Katniss has become a hardened hunter willing to do anything to protect her sister and mother. Katniss suffered the lose of her father at the age eleven. Her father passed in a coal mine explosion and was blown to pieces. Katniss, traumatized, still wakes up in the middle of the night from her nightmares, screaming for her father to run out of the coal mines. Katniss's mother fell into extreme depression and watched her two kids turn into nothing but skin and bones. Katniss didn't blame her mom for her actions, after losing the love of her life. Therefore, it was up to Katniss to support her family.

Many families have a special dinner after the picking of the reaping, besides two unfortunate families that have to say goodbye to a family member for the Hunger Games. Katniss enters her name into the reaping in exchange for grain and oil. Katniss's name has been entered twenty times this year for the hunger games. Katniss is scared for her sister, Prim, because she is now twelve and has her named into the reaping once. Everyone gathers in the town square, and awaits the drawing of the two names for the hunger games, where two people from each district will fight till one person remains. Effie Trinket is the sponsor of district twelve and she picks the two tributes. After being introduced by the mayor Effie crosses the stage to the ladies bowl and pronounces the tribute, ¨It´s Primrose
