Kardia is a FDA-cleared device and is the most clinically-validated mobile EKG solution available (AliveCor, n.d.). The automatic algorithm has 98% sensitivity and 97% specificity for the detection of atrial fibrillation (AliveCor, n.d.). In addition, Kardia mobile is not currently covered by insurance, but is eligible for payment through health spending accounts, flexible spending accounts, and health reimbursement accounts.

This technology would be a good fit for the clinic when working with pregnant patients who have known or possible heart conditions. It will save time and will improve efficiency in the practice. When a patient is concerned, they are able to take a quick reading and forward the information on to their provider for further direction. The web patient portal, in addition to the patient portal app, provides patients an easy way to communicate with their provider, schedule appointments and send secure messages.
10. Why do you think this product would be a good fit for this clinic?
I think it is important for this clinic to consider telehealth options. It would be a great way for a provider to follow up with a patient after office hours, rural patients or a patient who is confined to bedrest. Telehealth supports patient-centered care with better communication, health literacy, medication management, patient self-management and changes in patient health and lifestyle behavior (HealthcareIT, 2014). Having the Virtual Practice app would establish an efficient, convenient and responsive way to communicate and support patients.

Conclusion
The products mentioned are just a few mHealth and RPM tools available today. Providing tools like these will help the OBGYN clinic to support patient-centered care and empower patients to take more control of their healthcare.
