I believe that some of the fame and fortune the Kardashians acquire, comes from who their father was. For those who do not know, Robert Kardashian was a Los Angeles attorney and businessman who defended O.J. Simpson during the murder trial of O.J.’s wife. This murder trial helped Robert gain national recognition. Four of the current day members of the Kardashian family originated from parents, Kris Jenner and Robert Kardashian. Clearly the Kardashians produce something that our society considers. Despite the fact that the Kardashians are remarkably wealthy and familiar, that their global recognition comes from their last name, we as individuals in society go for them. “We've entered an era where ‘fame’ has far less to do with genuine talent and love for one's craft and far more to do with tabloid scandal and reality television antics” (Shankman). Shankman also states, “The Kardashians arguably 'launched' much in part due to Kim's one-time BFF status with Paris Hilton, and then her subsequent sex tape. Soon thereafter, the family is outselling box office movie stars on the new stands. Entry into the once glamorous celebrity in-crowd is now often as easy as creating a viral moment of tabloid gossip” (5). I agree with what Shankman is stating because even though a portion of Kardashian’s fame and wealth originated from their social connects and/or surroundings, we as a society still proceed to acknowledge the Kardashian empire.
