Kanye's Ambition Of The American Dream

Kanye West (a.k.a Ye, a.k.a Yeezy, a.k.a Louis Vuitton Don) is a name that hasn’t left the media for the past decade. Perhaps due to his antics, his ever-evolving hairstyle, or his wildly (subjectively) overpriced fashion line, Kanye has had a visceral grip on the public. I’ve been entranced by him, but not because of his cool clothes or trendy music. He is my favourite artist because his ambition is unparalleled. He has worked for years to achieve the perfect sound, proving his musical caliber with each release. I respected his choice to take a hiatus, especially when he returned with an amazing album. I love his ability to gauge himself and produce quality content at the perfect moment, not rushing himself, while also showing up to the studio to work and groom newer artists. One of my favourite authors, Gladwell wrote a book called “Blink”, which essentially says one can develop a revolutionary talent only after extensive work. Kanye could influence dozens of young artists directly and countless more indirectly because he used to come home from school everyday and practice making music, constantly innovating with his keyboard. I appreciate how hard he hustled to achieve his dream and use him as an inspiration to not only work hard, but work smart, creatively manipulating whatever field I work in.

Gladwell’s anecdotal style of literature is both funny and informative, something I always cherish. I love his style and how his journey, composed of words, teaches me everything from Biblical narratives to how firefighters perform under stress to the strategies subway officials use to combat graffiti. I enjoy his informative manner, mostly because he manages to remain breezy and light throughout his books. Educating while entertaining is something that shouldn’t be constrained to Gladwell, but adopted across
