He had no idea that later on that day he would be faced with the enormous decision of whether or not to inform Caesar of his impending assassination. He left his home just as the sun was rising early in the morning and went to work at his workshop. Business seemed slower than usual but nothing was out of the ordinary. He began to tidy up a few things around his work area and that’s when he had his vision. He saw the prophecy laid out before him, Caesar was killed on the fifteenth of March by his fellow government officials. At first the soothsayer was unsure of what he had just seen. How could a conspiracy of that magnitude occur within the Roman government? This was exactly what the soothsayer had feared was going to happen. Even though he was not being mocked or called insane he was still not being believed. At this point the soothsayer had greatly invested himself into his prophecy and was genuinely concerned for Caesar’s life and the fate of the Roman empire. He knew that there must be something else he could do to try to change the course of fate. He pondered his options as he made his way back to his workshop. He knew there must be something that would have a greater impact on Caesar’s thinking. The soothsayer decided that he would try to persuade Caesar through the people around him. Since he knew that none of Caesar’s government officials could be trusted with his prophecy he decided to go through Caesar’s wife, Calphurnia. The soothsayer wrote his letter to Calphurnia pleading her to convince him of the danger that Caesar was in for the sake of his life and the Roman empire. Even though the soothsayer knew that their was a slight chance of this working he felt honored to have been the one to receive the vision of the prophecy and his experience helped him to become the honorable person he had always desired to
