John Proctor's Argumentative Essay

In the crucible, John Proctor is a tormented individual who cannot find himself to be a good person or a bad one. John had made mistakes in life that makes him seem like a bad man, but he also does good things for his community. He is a good man who had made mistakes in life, but he uses his good senses to do the right thing being a truthful christian. Johns Proctor first mistake is that he had an affair with Abigail williams and she soon falls in love with him. Abby had started framing people for witchcraft to try to get to John and was slowly going insane for him. John wanted his marriage restored and to end all connections with Abigail “ Abby i may think of you from time to time, But I will cut my hand before I’ll ever reach for you again” (22). The quote is showing that he does not want to interact with her anymore. Abigails heart crushed because of this told the court that Elizabeth Proctor had set her soul out and attacked her during the night and stabbed her with a needle. Elizabeth was taken into custody being accused of witchcraft for something she didn't do and John was not going to let his wife die for his sins “ My wife will never die for me! I will bring your guts into your mouth but that goodness will not die for me” (76). John is not going to let the court take his wife's soul for what he has done and wants Mary Warren to confess to the jury that her and the other girls have been lying about the things they have said to seen. After John had yelled at Mary Warren in front of the whole village Mary then lied and called John a wizard and forced her to confess to the jury. …show more content…
