John Colter: One Of The American Legends

John Colter is one of the American legends to have lived more than 200 years ago. Born in Augusta County, Virginia in around 1775, the man left a landmark in the American history through his famous expeditions and explorations. Specifically, he became a member of the Lewis and Clark expeditions and later the explorations of the Yellowstone National Park (Anglin, and Morris, 26). There exists debate as to whether John Colter was literate or not, but it is assumed by historians that he was able to write his name. His family migrated from Ireland in the 1700 and after his birth, in around 1780, the family settled in Maysville, Kentucky.
