The political cartoon demonstrates a human-headed, thirteenth legged, octopus, representing England grabbing all countries except Egypt. This symbolizes the power and control England had. From my concluded research, the human-headed octopus is John bull. John Bull is an imaginary person used to satirize political events. When John bull became a well-known cartoon who was used as a symbol for England. England had a desire for economic growth to gain supremacy and the colonial rule, would be a jump start.The craving to acquire a greater amount of these assets drove Europeans government to build the span of their empires. Imperialism plays a major role in this cartoon because England had a hunger for raw resources where they can turn into manufactured goods and sell them. All three sources came from the idea that the Europeans had to be more superior than all else. This is also connected to colonization and imperialism. Eurocentrism leads to residential schools which lead to the long-term effect on Aboriginal people. With all three sources, Europeans were taking over land that was already claimed to belong to the Aboriginals but the Europeans wanted to colonize land and spread their beliefs. Residential schools were used to assimilate the Aboriginal people into Christianity which is what the Europeans wanted, they didn't care about the Aboriginal individuals as long as they were spreading their beliefs around the world.
