Invisible target Media has huge part in collecting information in many forms to deliver it to large group of people around the world. Many issues had been displayed to people imperfectly that made some to react in violence way while it’s the media role to show the truth without preferring or bias to one side over the other. Joe Sacco is the author of “On satire” comic, which highlights many social and racial issues such as racism and stereotype, written as a response to Charlie Hebdo attacks in France. Sacco drew his satire in black and white, which indicate moral sense about right and wrong. Human rights should apply to all human being equally without any segregation, so as the message inside “On satire”. Foremost, the first row of the satire explains Sacco’s first reaction and the reason that made him start drawing “On satire”. He first draw himself as a caveman beating his chest in a defense way, and a little two scared terrorist with their AK-47 running away from him. Yet, this is only an introduction not his real feeling. Sacco said, “My first reaction to the murders at Charlie Hebdo offices in Paris was not bold defiance.” What did he feel before drawing this satire? The next two pictures of himself in the cemetery explain his real feeling. He was holding his hat in a front of graves that has crosses made up with two pens in each grave, and he said: “My first reaction was sadness. People were brutally killed, among them several cartoonists-my tribe.” He felt sad and sorry for the people who were killed for no rational reason, especially for those who were cartoonists and colleagues of him, but he also decided that violence is not a right way for him to fight back these attacks. He favors to see it as a challenging way of using what he is good at. He states, “It has never struck me as anything other than a vapid way to use the pen”. These pictures were matter of life and death at that time, and it was, still for certain people, very aggressive, offensive and unpleasant. However, a cartoonist has been fired from Charlie Hebdo for anti-Semitism, because he mocked the relationship of the son of former French president with wealthy Jewish woman. Sacco is motivating his audience to read what happened to him, or as he said “That Charlie Hebdo fired a cartoonist- Maurice Sinet, look him up…In fact, when we draw a line, we are often crossing one too. Because lines on paper are a weapon, and satire is meant to cut to the bone, but whose bone? What exactly is the target? And why?” His questions also tell his audience about the reason that made him bring Jews and black people into the satire. It’s for showing the double standard of some people in higher power; Insulting Muslims’ prophet and heroes is considered fine and it’s a freedom of press, but once engaging the relationship …show more content…
He involved many races issues in his comic as a respond to the attacks of Charlie Hebdo. He defenses his colleagues by drawing the satire with his feeling rather than a physical violent. Treating the incidence depend on who is referring to was a huge mistake. He claimed that they must take the responsibility on what they did wrong from the beginning and prevent furthermore racism. The goal here is to limit any future damage caused by this kind of segregation. Trying to understand both side of a coin is much better way of dealing with issues than acting unwisely in violence
