Jim does not provide his family with enough money to support them, only giving her two or three dollars a week if he does not spend it on alcohol. To support her children, Jim’s wife would go to Jim’s employer and ask for an advance on the his wages. After doing this once or twice, Jim would, “beat her to it” and asking for all of this paycheck in advance. He would then tell what his wife had done all around town. One day Jim broke into Julie’s home and grabbed ahold of her. She managed to escape into another room and call the town sheriff. Jim was good at imitating voices and to get “revenge” on Julie he called her as Doc Stair. Jim with Doc Stair’s voice told Julie that he wanted to see her that night. Being madly in love with Jim, Julie did not question Jim and headed to Doc Stair’s office. Doc Stair always has his light on so to Julie it seemed like someone was in there. Jim went to Wright’s poolroom and told a gang there to observe the prank that he was about to pull on Julie. After Julie had arrived, she rung the doorbell. No one answered. She rung again. No one answered. Then Jim, who was hiding in the darkness of the stairs with the gang, made a noise, in which Julie would reply, “ Is that you Ralph?” Jim and the gang would then emerge from the darkness and chace Julie all the way home, hollering, “Oh Ralphie, dear, is that you?” These actions that Jim took clearly showed his immaturity. Pulling pranks are most closely associated with adolescence. The pranks that Jim conducts are meant aggravate or in this case scare someone. Furthermore, Jim is pulling the prank Julie

In his book, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Mark Twain tackles the issues of Slavery in the United States (specifically the South). Twain does so by telling the story of a thirteen year old white boy named Huck Finn and his adventures with Jim, a black slave. It is important to note that Mark Twain wrote this book two decades after the Emancipation Proclamation, and while this abolished Slavery, racism was still a real problem of the South. Moreover, Twain establishes the significance of friendship in the novel. Through events such as Huck’s ‘band of robbers’ known as ‘Tom Sawyer’s Gang’ to his growing compassion towards Jim, it is clear that Huck treats friendship as a very serious matter his life.…
