The military looks much different today than it did 20 years ago. However, the same values remain at its core; do the rightthing. Even when it feels uncomfortable, efficient leaders do the right thing. A quote from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. states “Never, never be afraid to do what’s right, especially if the well-being of a person or animal is at stake. Society’s punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way.” This is a great example of what is at the core of successful Army leaders. Leaders must take the time to get to know their Soldiers individually. They must take the time to hone each of their strengths and develop each of their weaknesses. A team is only as strong as its weakest link and an effective leader will make it a priority topush his/her Soldiers to be better. Leaders have a responsibility to train their Soldiers to be physically and mentally fit for the good of the team and for the growth of the Soldier. In conclusion, good leadership creates well-rounded Soldiers that will become the future leaders of our Army. Leaders must be willing to humble themselves enough toreceive direction and not just give direction. In an ever changing Army, leaders have to evolve with the times and embrace the changes.
