Question 1: Describe the activities in a typical day in your job, including the number of hours you work each week? In a typical day on the job, Jennifer starts of her day by running morning reports to verify number of claims that went out the day before and dollar amounts. Next the staff has their daily meeting to determine the work load. Jennifer says one of her favorite things about her job is investigating difficult claims. She said she likes the challenge and like to search to find the answer no matter how difficult. She also loves being involved in campus wide projects to improve patient care. She said she enjoys seeing everyone come together to solve a common goal and help patients in need.
Question 6: What skills are most important in your field? Describe a situation in which you see these skills? Jennifer stressed that communication is critical in order to obtain necessary authorizations or referrals for treatment. She said she uses communication skills on a daily basis dealing with other departments, physicians, and clinical staff in effort to get the claims paid appropriately. Continuing, she says communication is important because without it we would not be able to do our jobs and provide a treatment plan for patients.
Question 8: Describe a challenging situation you’ve had in your job? Jennifer said a challenging situation in her job would be cooperating with the physicians. The physicians are busy and they do not have time to figure out writing that is not clear. It is difficult to get a hold of the physicians while their working and have them fill out documentations.
