In his composition of “Music for 18 Musicians,” I believe that Reich was composing a piece about the African country. There are parts of the song in which you can practically hear birds and the sounds of the outdoors and wilderness. This piece of music is fast paced, but it is overall very beautiful and reminiscent of a scene beneath the African night sky. I enjoy this type of music, and in all of its chaotic sounds, I find it very relaxing as well. It somewhat reminds me of some of the fantasy movies that I watch that are focused on the jungle. You can practically hear the wildlife calling to you from inside the forest. I feel as if Steve Reich’s music should be considered “classical” music to a certain extent. It is not like what Beethoven writes, but it is not like any other genre. He definitely looks at the world a different way than the rest of us do. His music is a mix between classic and a more native and raw sound, which makes beautiful compositions that are imitations of real
