The purpose of this work is to explore the role of leadership in companies and how it is such a key factor in success. Cultivation within a company is what makes a good company great; without new ideas and new ways of getting to them a company will fall into mediocrity. How does such business keep getting better in a time of technological advancement and emerging new ideas constantly? The answer is simple; leadership. The Industrial Revolution is considered a contributor to the early development in modern times to leadership. In the article The History of Leadership Focus, gives insight to why that is. Max Weber who is quoted as saying, “observed the parallels between the mechanization of industry and the proliferation of bureaucratic forms of organization” (Stone, 2005.Morgan, 1997, p. 17). Thus this is referring to production getting better at efficiency and therefore creating leadership (Stone, 2005). Leadership, whether it is from the ancient times of developing a leader to modern times in the boardroom it is stemmed from an individual taking charge and creating change to make a vision happen that are acquired throughout a series of psychological behaviors. There is a series of components that make up a transformational leadership such as required ethical elements, characteristics, behaviors, outcomes and institutionalized organizational ethics. These business leaders that were mentioned previously are successful but they also used those around them who were good at what they do. Leaders can envelop their employees, use ideas that are cutting edge and more importantly they can unify a group of people that have the same goal or difference.
