For one, his leadership role was definitely not handed to him. At first, Jack was a follower of Ralph, just like everyone else. However, he was still incredibly independent while he was listening to him. When Jack became a clear leader, he took a different approach in leading these boys. Jack wanted to hunt, play, eat, sleep and repeat. If Jack could have it his way, I’m sure he’d want to stay on the island and make it his own little playground. Like Ralph, he did ensure hope in the boys, hope that they would survive and live on the island forever.
All in all, Ralph and Jack are noticeably very different leaders. Ralph is given his leadership and Jack claims his on his own. Ralph is all about getting rescued and Jack is about hunting and getting meat to eat while taking advantage of the adult free sanctuary they are in.
