“Isms” are created through stereotyping that often bring a certain hatred for a particular part of society, many well known “Isms” often come to mind when imagining certain types of discrimination. Often neglected types of discrimination that people do not process until they truly think about it; for example, one in which is lookism; moreover, lookism is “Prejudice or discrimination based on physical appearance and especially the physical appearance believed to fall short of societal notions of beauty” (Merriam-Webster). Having discrimination in the way someone appears physically is mind-boggling in that everyone is created differently and no one is made a perfect person, as everyone has his or her own individual flaws, so discriminating

This can effect in a positive or negative way in different job scenarios. For instance, “Today, if people don't dress or look a certain way their chances of getting their dream job are automatically lowered, even though business might say this isn't true, it more than likely is” this general idea of lookism is a perfect example of why people are discriminated against based on looks (Types of lookism and discrimination). Such as Victoria Secret models that show “that society needs to be stick figures” creates a feeling of sorrow and felt as if they are being treated differently just because of the beauty on the outside (Miller-Baker). Creating opportunity for everyone is the something that the founding fathers wanted as everyone could pursue their American Dream and lookism creates a halt in the path to success. Considering most of the conditions that are discriminated upon are different traits that a person could not control. As obesity for example, has become an issue for the nation, lookism is even more of an issue that lies in the background of obesity since people are losing their jobs and people are being told what they can and cannot do with their own bodies. People not only are being discriminated by other people they are having self-esteem issues and having more problems then just being overweight. Because of all of these factors, lookism has grown over the past years and still continues on a daily basis
