Is Evolution True?

Evolution is factual despite the great amount of people who don’t believe in the recent discoveries. There are numerous facts supporting Darwinian evolution, in which, Scientists today are finding species splitting in two, observing natural selection changing animals and plants before our eyes, and discovering more and more fossils capturing change in the past-dinosaurs that have sprouted feathers, fish that have grown limbs. Jerry Coyne eloquently shows that evolution does not destroy the beauty of life but enhances it. Jerry Coyne clearly confirms that evolution is more than just a theory: it is a fact-a fact that cannot be doubted by anyone with an open mind. There are many other scientists and their most recent discovery that can attest to the fact that evolution is indeed true.
The tenets of evolutionary theory are simple: Life evolved, largely under the influence of natural selection; this evolution took a rather long time; and species alive and dead can be organized on the basis of shared similarities into a tree whose branching pattern implies that every pair of living species has a common ancestor. Although evolution is too complex, and the most of the studies are inconclusive, there are other ways to prove that the studies can be verifiable. The way you do a certain calculation, whether basic math or complex algebra, is the way it will always be done, and it will always produce the same result. Physics. Chemistry. Electricity. Radio waves. Plant life. Animal life. The physical and life sciences are all very precise and systematic sciences. Each follows a specific pattern. There are basic forms of each, as well as scientific combinations. For example, you can "mate" an orange and a tangerine because they are from the same family. But you cannot mix apples and oranges, even though they are both fruits. Nor is there any logic or proof that an apple evolved from an orange, or an orange from an apple. Likewise, monkeys and humans may have many similar physical features and social behaviors, but that seems to be a rather thin link to conclude that humans are the offspring of monkeys. The field of evolutionary biology seeks to provide explanations for four conspicuous patterns that are manifest in nature. The first three concern living species, whereas the fourth relates to fossils: genetic variation, adaption, divergence, and fossil species. Genetic variation has tremendous genetic diversity within almost all species, including humans. No two individuals have the same DNA sequence, with the exception of identical twins or clones. This genetic variation contributes to phenotypic variation that is, diversity in the outward appearance and behavior of individuals of the same species. Adaption living organisms have morphological, biochemical, and behavioral features that make them well adapted for life in the environments in which they are usually found. For example, consider the hollow bones and feathers of birds that enable them to fly, or the cryptic coloration that allows many organisms to hide from their predators. These features may give the superficial appearance that organisms were designed by a creator (or engineer) to live in a particular environment. Evolutionary biology has demonstrated that adaptations arise through selection acting on genetic variation. Divergence has all of its living

However, the following offers a sample of the kinds of evidence that have been discovered and confirmed repeatedly by scientists. These examples also illustrate the importance of this evidence for science and society more generally. The evidence from fossils are based on myriad similarities and differences between living species, evolutionary biology makes predictions about the features of ancestral forms. For example, numerous features indicate that birds are derived from reptilian ancestors. By contrast, these data reject the possibility that birds were derived from other groups, such as flying insects. Scientists have discovered fossil birds with feathers and legs like modern birds, but which also have teeth, clawed digits on their forelimbs, and a tailbone like their reptilian ancestors. Fossils are especially important evidence for evolution because, with little effort, each of us can use our eyes and minds to observe and interpret the dinosaur and other ancient fossils in public

Scientists have long theorized that the long neck of modern-day giraffes evolved to enable them to find more vegetation or to develop a specialized method of fighting. A new study of fossil cervical vertebrae reveals the evolution likely occurred in several stages as one of the animal's neck vertebrae stretched first toward the head and then toward the tail a few million years later. The study's authors say the research shows, for the first time, the specifics of the evolutionary transformation in extinct species within the giraffe family. "It's interesting to note that the lengthening was not consistent," said Nikos Solounias, a giraffe anatomy expert and paleontologist at NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine.…

“Evolution as Fact and Theory” by Stephan Jay Gould outlines the constant taxing debate over evolution among creationists and evolutionists. He outlines the major issues that fuel the dispute and provides the logical and scientific approach to evolution for a clear argument against the claims of creationists. He firstly, provides a thorough explanation of the misconceptions of the definitions; “theory” and “Fact’. In the common vernacular a fact may be perceived as undeniable information with absolute certainty. (gould)…

“It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change” – Charles Darwin. Evolution is “the process by which different kinds of living organisms are thought to have developed and diversified from earlier forms during the history of the earth”. The theory of evolution has become one of the most controversial topics in science because of how the public reacts to the contents of the theory. The theory is controversial because it posses the debate of whether God or a supreme being played a role in the process of evolution or that humans have evolved naturally over time. Many opponents of the theory argue that science is a knowledge that can only be repeated, demonstrated, and observed and evolution can only be believed in.…

In the article, Perkin begun by describing how the fossils can shed light of evolutionary changes. For example, the transitional fossil can provide how the ancestor and modern species are different and similar. The most known example of transitional fossil is Tiktaalik which is the species between the arthropod and tetrapod. In addition, we can trace back the ancestor of the modern species using fossils. In the article, Perkins details how the species named elder frog might be an ancestor of salamander and frog, which fundamentally means that salamander and frog might be related species.…

Jerry Coynes', Why Evolution is True, had the instinctive capacity to utilize science as the perfect means to force me to question everything I had been taught about evolution. He presents and explains his ideas about evolution systematically and in detail. While reading each chapter, I was able to reflect on my personal evaluation of “Why Evolution is True” based on Jerry Coyne’s words and ideas. The idea of evolution is met with much defiance for several reasons.…

There has always been much controversy over your theory of evolution; a theory that has lasted or almost 160 years, with not a single piece of evidence presented that disproves the fundamental validity of that theory. In fact, it is being supported time and time again by fossil records. However, thats not to say your theory is perfect. The point of a theory is not to be perfect. The ideas you have presented, however, are the best and most scientifically grounded ideas we have about the way species evolve and change.…

Usually these descendants are long deceased, as evolution continues through time. It was interesting in the case of the sea-coelacanth, that this fish, which was thought to be an ancient ancestor of four legged vertebrate such as humans, was still around and able to be examined in modern day. This is where the term “living fossil” originates, it is not that it is an actual living fossil, but it is a very close example to how an ancestral fish from millions of years ago appeared. It was intriguing to read how the coelacanth swam so differently from the way fish are known to swim.…

Finally, a scientific theory is a hypothesis that is then supported by observations and explanations. It may be right, wrong, or even partially wrong. There are various evidences that support the Theory of Evolution and many others that prove it's opposite. Some people are against the theory, others believe and even added more and more ideas to it. There is no strong scientific evidence that proves that either side is 100% true and…

Evolution is a polarizing subject that some people may choose to regard it as fact while others may choose to regard it as a mere theory. Most people, including scientists believe that evolution is a fact because the evidence supporting it is very strong. However, others are reluctant to believe that evolution has happened because it may contradicts their holy beliefs and because no one has seen it happen. Evolution is a theory or a fact only to the extent that people are willing to accept it a theory or a fact. The Scopes Trial in 1925 sheds some light on the attitudes that people once had towards evolution.…

In the essay, “Evolution as Fact and Theory,” Stephen Gould defenses Charles Darwin’s theory of Evolution over the beliefs of creationist on God creating all organisms in the world. To further his support, he states his three arguments which are observational evidence, the imperfection of nature, and transitions found in fossil records to demonstrate that even though evolution is just a theory, there are plentiful evidence of facts that supports it. The essay was not just about justifying the theory of evolution to the creationist but also to reject the ideas of blindfolded views on scientific creationism. Throughout the essay, Gould acknowledges many of the major perspectives of the scientific world to support the theory of evolution that…
