contraindication of contrast media In the radiation they are using many tints , e.g. barium also We are using in the nuclear medicine and it’s called radiopharmaceuticals such as Carbon-11 , Chromium-51 , Fluorine-18FDG , Gallium-87 , Gallium-86 citrate , Technetium-99 , Iodine-123 and Iodine-131 . there are all these different uses pigments have benefits and harm . Firstly , we will talk about Iodine-123 is used to diagnoses the patients . It use for routine scan the time of imaging 4-6 or 24 hours and dosage 100-400 microCi po , Also we can use for thyroid cancer the time of imaging 4-6 or 24 hours and dosage 1.5 mCi po . The photon energy of iodine-123 is 159 keV . The half life is 13 hours . It has many advantages in the medical industry and use easy to detect defects in thyroid and half life fits human beings and not attacking cells within the body and easy to use in “SPECT”. In other hand it has also disadvantage at remove excess iodine-123 can be difficult and it is advisable to use an antiseptic and removing physical contamination that may be ineffective and …show more content…
technetium-99m is an isotope of the artificially and it has many characteristics for nuclear medicine scan the first one it has a half-life of six hours and it decay by process called “ isomeric ” and emit low energy of gamma rays and this helps to easily exit the body and can be detected accurately also emit beta rays but without high energy radiation dose to the patient is low . It has different number of compounds created for various structures such as CNS imaging it use Tc-99 ECD , bone imaging it use Tc-99 MDP , renal imaging it use Tc-99 MAG3 , parathyroid imaging it use Tc-99m sestamibi , lung ventilation imaging and bronchial clearance it use Tc-99 DTPA ( aerosol ) and to differentiate between malignant and benign use Tc-99m MIBI

Iodinated contrast agents is used as well as air. Evidently, barium enema and CT colonography use identical means, however, they differ on the process. Iodinated contrast is directly placed in the colon whereas in CT, it is given intravenously. The impact on diagnosis and radiation dose will be further investigated in the planned…

INT 420 Deona Sherrill Paper #1 There are literally thousands of web sites out there that claim to be news sources and many of these web sites are conspiracy sites and/or groups who think they can publish rumors as facts. This can wreak havoc on the internet and in some people’s lives and I think it is highly unethical to publish anything that has not first been proven to be true by finding the basis for their stories on facts and not rumors. I remember one story that flew the rumor mill last May about how the US Military was going to invade Texas or put Texas under Martial Law or at the very least was training our troops on how to put the entire United States under Martial Law. In reality, some of our special op troops were being brought…

If the deficiency is prolonged it could lead to thyroid cancer.(2). Another application of Iodine is water purification. Iodine purifies water by oxidizing the bacteria in the water causing the iodide atoms to be reduced to negative iodine ions which disrupts the ion balance and the bacteria is killed.(3). Iodine is also used to test for the presence of starch: Lugol’s iodine solution (H2O + I2) is how this is tested. The presence of starch is indicated by a colour change causing the starch to turn black.(4).…

X-rays cause bones and other structures to cast shadows due to them being denser than skin. This allows doctors and dentists alike to spot broken bones and dental problems. X-rays and other forms of radiation have a variety of uses in therapy. They are often used to kill cancerous tissues, reduce the size of a tumor, or reduce pain. For example, “radioactive iodine (specifically iodine 131) is frequently used to treat thyroid cancer, a disease that strikes about 11,000 Americans every day.…

It’s important to stay up to date on coding changes. To be a truly viable coder it’s absolutely necessary to stay informed about what’s taking place in the industry. Having a membership with AAPC and AHIMA has shown me the importance of staying current and these memberships are a great way to do it. Continuing education is necessary to keep your certification credential current, but the classes, webinars, and seminars will also help you stay informed of new developments that will affect you on the job. By keeping current you can be an asset to your organization and that can be good for you when it comes time for promotions and raises.…

According to David Richardson, author of Modern Ceramic Engineering, ceramics have been used for medical diagnoses for several years. Most petri dishes, test tubes, and microscopic lenses are created from ceramic glass and plastics. Computed Tomography, or CT, scans use ceramic scintillators to detect the presence of x-rays which have passed through the body, and project an image onto a computer, giving doctors an inside look into a patient’s body. Endoscopes and Ultrasound machines also make use of ceramic material to provide doctors with inside looks into the human body through non-invasive means. In endoscopic surgeries, a flexible tube filled with ceramic optical fibers and a ceramic lens, known as an endoscope, is inserted into to small…

This process is called scintigraphy. The gamma camera is used to make and identify images from just a tiny quantity of ionising radiation, which is emitted from the patient after having nuclear medicine study. The gamma camera has a thin sliding table on which the patient lies and then, by using the ‘head’ of the camera the images are being…

Reggie Joseph 10/23/14 Mrs.Flannery Chemisty 10A Iodine: During the course of this project, I have learned many things about the element Iodine and it's contributions to the world. In the early 1800's, Bernard Courtois manufactured potassium nitrate and used seaweed ash as his mains source of potassium. one day in 1811, Courtois added sulfuric acid and saw purple fumes which condensed to form crystals with a metallic luster. Courtois suspected that this was a new element and showed it to Charles-Bernard Desomes and to Nicholas Clement who carried out a systematic evaluation and investigation and confirmed that it was.…

Iodine-125 is commerically available in dilute sodium hydroxide solution with high chemical and radiochemical purity. Its radioactive concentration lies at 4 to 11 GBq/ml. Cyclotron produced radioiodines Iodine-123 represents widely used cyclotron-produced radioisotope for single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT). Nuclear reaction which yields Iodine-123 directly via proton bombardment of tellurium targets in a cyclotron with subsequent separation of this radioiodine from the irradiated target represents most commonly utilized…

A gamma camera is an imaging technique which is used to carry out scans of brain, thyroids, lungs and much more. It is also a detector of gamma photons emitted by a source inside a patient. The most common tracer used is Technetium-99. Tracers such as Technetium-99 are bound to a substance that is used by the body. Technetium-99 emits gamma radiation and it has a half-life of 6 hours, this life is long enough to be recorded.…

Iodine was discovered mainly by two scientists: Bernard Courtois and Gay-Lussac. Courtois had added sulfuric acid to the ash while he was burning seaweed and noticed the formation of violet vapor. Courtois then sent the crystals to Gay-Lussac who identified a new element - iodine (from the Greek word for violet) (Zimmermann, 2008). Iodine should be distributed in foods, water and soil. Mc Clendon stated: “it seems possible that goiter maps and iodine maps, supposing they existed, would fit like the land fits the ocean, goiter incidence and iodine varying inversely” (Schlumberger G., 1955).…

Iodine is a metallic grey element found in the halogen part of the periodic table. In the early 1900s, many people in the U.S. were suffering from Iodine deficiencies which caused all sorts of health complications. The decision to add iodine to salt was made to remedy these deficiencies and the problems associated with them. Salt was picked as a host for the iodine, because of its widespread use and the ease at which iodine could be added. This decision did not come without a cost and today the consumers of iodized salt experience numerous problems brought on by the food additive.…
