Inventions During The 1920's

During the roaring 20’s there were many new inventions that had a great impact on people's lives. These new inventions were known as “Time Saving Devices.” Hence the name, these inventions gave people more time free time to do the things they enjoyed such as going to sporting events, watching movies, attending speakeasies, and many other activities. One of these new inventions during the 20’s was the washing machine. The first electric washing machine was produced and sold by Hurley Electric Laundry Equipment Company in 1907. Traditionally the wife or children of the household would have to wash clothes by hand with a washboard. This process would take hours to wash everyone's dirty clothes. With the invention of the washing machine a task that would take almost all day would only take a few minutes. A few times a day, someone would have to throw in a basket of dirty laundry and the washing machine would clean the clothes without attendance. This gave women and children the freedom to leave the household and do other things while the clothes were being washed. Another new invention during this time period was a refrigerator. The first refrigerator was invented by American Inventor, Fred W. Wolf, in 1913. Before this invention, each household had an icebox. …show more content…
The radio exposed the whole country to the same news, sports, and entertainment. This helped to create a uniform culture across the United States during this roaring time period. Yet another important injection was the automobile which was also known as a time saving device. People were able to travel places a lot faster with the invention of the automobile. Strict train schedules did not need to be followed anymore and people were able to make their own plans and timetables. The automobile also created needs for new roads.
