It has been said that your childhood is a period of “growth”. I was aware of this from an early age and wanted to know more about myself in order to help myself improve. I didn’t know much about my past and was curious to learn about it, so I contacted my mother’s uncle, who is a professor and writer, about his article on our family’s past. He found out that his ancestors belonged to the Abdali tribe, a tribe who lived in Afghanistan and parts of Pakistan. Although I was born in Fremont, California, my parents immigrated from Afghanistan to America looking for a better life. My dad lived in New York until he got an engineering job in the San Francisco Bay Area. My middle name, Sadaf, means shell in Farsi, or so I was told. I do not speak Farsi well, so it is sometimes hard to communicate to some of my older relatives who don’t know English. When I was a little kid, I had firm beliefs and a big passion to express myself. I always was the kid in class who had a loud voice and who could and would talk for hours. I may be less loud now, but I still am very passionate and a hard working student. I’m always interested in political news and …show more content…
In the past, schoolwork was very important and valuable to me, but I always had the mentality that I could always do my assignments later because it wasn’t due at the time. I have learned that when I procrastinated, I didn’t get enough sleep because of doing it last minute, and the assignment could lack the necessary information needed. This year, I will make sure to focus on doing my homework first and isolate myself from any distractions. My long-term goal is to finish my education and travel the world. I always was interested in different cultures and languages and I want to go out into the world and learn as much as I can. How I will accomplish this is by continuing my education on the right path, get a job, and start by traveling to South

Personally, Eric Liu's essay has been the most thought-provoking reading we have covered so far. Similarly to Liu, I was born in America to parents from a traditional culture who were not controlling of my assimilation. When speaking of his parents, Liu states, "they didn't tell me to do anything except to be a good boy"(7). After I had begun schooling, my English began to surpass my Farsi to the point where my mother started to have trouble keeping up with me.…

Hi Peeps, Today's Quote "The Good Missions Act spotlights the Good Deeds of the many Wonderful Grandparents who are involved with the lives of their Grandchildren-- bridging the gap and filling in the missing information of family values, History, solid work ethics, and God's Commandments with vigor, enlightenment, excitement and experience. This is hard to do for the disobedient and inexperienced Missing in Action Grandparents." ` Jon Barnes Missing in Action There are many reasons why people are missing in action on their assignments, but the scope of this is not to address the excuses; we are focusing on the Actions. Grandparents who are doing the Good Missions Act are engaged, involved, inspired, and courageous to pick up the Cross,…

Born in Los Angeles California yet raised in “Drip City” also known as Houston Texas. Though these two environments are quite different, Something that didn't change was the family I would be raised in. Growing up in a family which which has taught me to respect my culture and morals as well as embrace my religion has paved the way for me as an individual to take a more broad understanding of the world. The person I am today reflects not only what my family has made out of me, but my surroundings as well. When moving to Houston when i was 3, my Father stayed in california so that our family had a steady source of income.…

    B. Opening Statements Opening statements permit both the prosecutor and defense attorney the opportunity to present their interpretation of the events; these statements typically are summarized and do not include witnesses or evidence. However, the prosecutor composes the opening statement initially because the Government has the burden of proving the respondent perpetrated the crime. (United States Attorneys, 2015) C. Presentment of Cases Witness Examination Subsequent to the opening statements, the prosecutor initiates direct examination of the first of the witnesses; this is the prosecutor’s initial step in attempting to prove the case, and the duration may possibly be from a few minutes to several days. Throughout direct examination,…

Through my journey in high school, I have found that I am not always the smartest person in the room, but I am almost always the hardest worker. I find myself being the hardest worker because I am always working for the long-term goal. My biggest goal is to graduate from college with a master’s in education and to become a teacher. Of course, to do this I have to do well in school and challenge myself to make more than the bare minimum grade required to pass. This has led me to push myself in my classes, math team, extracurriculars, and volunteer work.…

I can recall my recent summer when I challenged myself to do tremendous homework. Looking back to my previous summers, they are all boring, so I encouraged myself to take drivers education for my license next year, test out of Algebra 2 and P.E., work at my parent’s nail salon to earn some cash, do my AP History and Advanced English homework, practiced my viola for Symphonic Orchestra, read during the night, and study for the S.A.T. (which was indeed, way too early for me). I was prompted to act because I recently found my ambitions for my future. My goals are to become some sort of engineer (undecided, but it’s related to this field), have the highest GPA possible, and get accepted into University of Michigan These ambitions didn’t hit me at the speed of light, but naturally throughout my ninth grade as I transition to a broader level of education.…

    I Am Sam Analysis

The film I Am Sam evoked quite powerful emotions for me, as the overall plot and characters reminded me of myself and my schizophrenic father. I couldn 't help but cry during quite a few scenes throughout the movie, as they brought back memories of my childhood with my father. The film 's depiction of what parents with disabilities go through with regard to the legal as well as social services system is quite accurate. Lucy is taken away from Sam and put into the foster system, due to the fact that he seemingly has the intellectual capacity of a seven-year-old, is mentally “retarded”, and has autistic tendencies and is therefore deemed incompetent of raising his daughter in a way that will be conducive to her development. It brings into question the true meaning of a “good parent.”…

Personally, reading is not a task that is prominent in my life. This summer, however, I was able to read two books, Room and Out of My Mind, because I, as previously stated, spent a large portion of my summer at a camp in which the usage of cell phones was prohibited. Through this experience, I determined that although I do enjoy sitting down and getting enveloped by the plot and characters of a book, I can never find time to do so. Still, those few times that I have been able to experience a book similar to the previous, I have felt the pleasure of being purely relaxed and distant from the real world. Despite that nearly all novels assigned to be read in school are for the greater part uninteresting, some are actually intriguing and memorable.…

Emily Dickinson is well known for her unusual poems, however during her life she wasn’t famous till after she passed away when her family started to find 1000’s of her poems stuff in tiny spaces all around the house. Dickinson’s writing wasn’t well understood during her time, she had a uniqueness that was ahead of her time; she had an amazing use of symbols, capitalism, themes and tones in her writing which make reading her poems so intriguing. While growing up she wasn’t the average women, she had her own thoughts and beliefs which is something I love about her which brings me to one of my favorite poems by her: “I’m Nobody! Who are you?” I 'm Nobody!…
