In the hour with them that I was honored with, I saw that they were not just being driven by money. They will be upfront with clients if they don’t feel like they have a case or if they should take certain deals. I believed that they would still take cases even if they were going to lose, and charge the client fees. They have great ethics in their business.
I also learned that they can be picky about which cases they want to take, purely based off interest. William Payne personally doesn’t like to take malpractice cases, where clients are suing their medical provider for wrongdoing, or property line disputes. My previous thought was they couldn’t turn away clients without a reasonable cause, similar to firing an employee.
The legal assistant was informing me of her duties. She is a little different than a paralegal, but still performs extensive research pertaining to cases. The Attorney then has to sign off on her research, which takes the liability off of her and puts it on him, so if there are any mistakes she would not be held liable, he would. It was helpful to my future to find out this information about how Legal ethics work.
Use of
