They are mature when they reach 35 centimeters in size, but that can take 6 to 8 years. They are extraordinary long lived creatures and can reach 70 years of age. They live in streams or rivers, but they need big rocks because they make their homes under them. They do not leave their rock patch, instead they stay there for their entire life. These creatures have almost no predators once they reach …show more content…
In 2006 through 2009 his experiments were redone. Hellbenders were only found in 11 of the 24 waterways that they looked in and they concluded that there was an 82% decline in their numbers from the 1980s. Another disturbing thing that was discovered was that in most habitats they only found full grown adults and no babies. Newts are semi-aquatic amphibians with tails (Brockes 2005) that are of the family Salamandridea. All newts are salamanders, but not all salamanders are newts. I will be observing specifically California Newts (Taricha torosa) and Rough-Skinned Newts (Taricha granulosa), which are both commonly found in the Northern California Area. Each can also be found in the UC Botanical Garden’s Japanese Pool, which is where I will be observing them. What most people do not think of is that while they are very alike in some ways, they are two extremely different, yet super frightening hunters. Both of these reptiles are members of the reptilian family Crocodylia, however they are from two different families. There are a sum of 25 types of crocodilians (belonging to the Crocodylia family), including these two. Crocodilians date back 260 million years, that’s 65 million years more than the dinosaurs.…
