Chemotherapy (chemo) is a cancer treatment.

Uses of chemotherapy

May be given to a tumor that can be treated with surgery, chemotherapy before surgery to try to shrink the cancer and reduce the risk of proliferation. This treatment is called niwadgovant.

Can also be given chemotherapy after surgery in an attempt to kill any cancer cells that were behind her. This type of treatment, called adjuvant therapy, may help delay or prevent cancer is growing again.

Chemotherapy for cancer that cannot be removed with surgery, may be the main treatment (alone or combined with radiotherapy). Chemotherapy may shrink or slow cancer growth, but very unlikely make it go away completely.

In systemic therapy, chemo is injected into a vein. The drug enters the bloodstream, travels throughout the body to reach and destroy cancer cells wherever they are.
