The chemotherapy comes in a cream that you rub onto your skin.Orally. The chemotherapy comes in pills, capsules, or liquids that you swallow all of which attack the rogue cells to either slow down or potentially kill the ailment. Now, while there is no real cure for cancer, some patients have had luck with chemo killing off all of the cancer and it not returning, but for most it just halts and prevents the disease from metastasizing (spreading beyond the origin into other parts of the body). Just like with most prescription, it has its side effects, they can be serious, they include vomiting, pain and weakness, tiredness and nausea. Because these side effects they eventually will have to stop because it makes you even sicker, but not only that, but eventually it will have no effect on the tumor, but it should have shrunk the tumor enough where they can remove it or if needed they will move on to radiation therapy. some cancers such as liver can be very difficult to treat, especially when it hits the bile duct, that's the worst case scenario, in this case chemo will only prolong the life of the …show more content…
His doctors gave him a 3 year time at best before he died, that's with chemo...he beat the odds, he survived 5 years after his diagnosis. eventually the chemo had no effect and he got progressively worse, it reached his bile duct and began spreading beyond his liver into the rest of his body. he died from renal failure (total organ failure) on october 29 at 5:00 PM 2011. the whole point of this paper is trying to get across to let people know that chemotherapy while being one of the best and major treatments, it's not a miracle drug and it is really just designed to prolong your life. Warren’s main point in her article is trying to figure out if Chemotherapy and radiation really have all the answers to keep the tumors from recurring. “The role of chemotherapy after surgery or radiation is unclear” (Kathy Warren). There is little evidence showing that chemotherapy actually helps raise the survival rate after surgery. Surgery is the main procedure of removing the tumors, but in some cases there may be some of the tumor that resides after being surgically removed. In this case chemotherapy would be used to check and see if any of the tumor remains.…

However, chemotherapy remains the mainstay of treatment for this group of patients. And primary chemotherapy with or without consolidating CRT is the current treatment choice in the UK.1 (Chauffert et al 2008); randomised patient with a diagnosis of LAPC between upfront CRT with a dose of 60 Gy in 30 fractions delivered concurrently with cisplatin and 5FU followed by maintenance gemcitabine and the second arm were treated with gemcitabine alone. the median survival was shorter in the CRT arm 8.4 months comparing to gemcitabine arm with median survival of 14.3 months. The author concluded that CRT followed by gemcitabine was more toxic and less effective comparing to chemotherapy alone and this clearly shows the important of chemotherapy.3 In LAPC there is high risk of micrometastaic disease and disease progression occurs in 30-40%of patients within the first 3-4 months, therefore initiating chemotherapy is the preferred treatment over upfront…

There are many differences between Hannibal’s journey and Mao’s journey. Firstly, I think that Mao’s journey is more difficult because I think that in Hannibal’s time, walking is the only means of transportation at that time. While there are horses and elephants, those leverages are only for rich people. That is why most people in the past would walk everywhere. However, in Mao’s time, there are already many ways that people can travel.…

Chemotherapy uses drugs to kill cancerous cells, such as doxorubicin, 5-fluorouracil, and cisplatin, which shrink a portion of the tumors for a short amount of time. This systemic chemotherapy has not shown rates of patients living longer, so doctors have studied hepatic artery infusion (HAI) where the chemotherapeutic drugs go into the liver through the hepatic artery, and the liver breaks down the drug; this gives the tumor more contact with chemotherapy however, this may not be useful for all patients since a catheter must be inserted into the hepatic artery to do so. For HAI, floxuridine, cisplatin, mitomycin C, and doxorubicin have…

Joe Dangor reported the results of a case study that was done on how life expectancy plays out when using chemotherapy after radiation as opposed to radiation by itself in those adults who have low-grade gliomas . Those patients who received the drugs after radiation lived an average of 5.5 years longer than those who did not. All together they determined it was better to add the chemotherapy at the end to boost the lives of all the men and women. The experiment that these people did provides great insight on the ways that each treatment can effect a particular type of cancer. This study can go to prove that the use of chemotherapy can actually boost the performance level of radiation exponentially and provide a greater life for those who are effected by the disease.…
